In his dreams maybe. I've actually contacted him through a guy at his club. I asked him if he wanted to play for money or bragging rights. He declined. I also told him I barely play these days. But my offers still stands. He won't reply to my pm of play or thru others so I don't know know what else I can do to make the match happen.

The crux of the matter is claims I cannot possibly actually play better than him because i managed my kids tennis lessons. So I made the wager. Typical all talk no action.

$50 for ex-college or local park feeder
$125+ for club pro
$250+ for ex-ATP

There's something for everyone and the $30 range is underserved and underrepp'ed as @sureshs implied.

Question for those who found someone in that range, how did you do that? How do I find a HS or college kid who can hit with me and get me to be 3.0? I am barely a 2.0 right now, I am ready to put the work in but cant afford the exorbitant coaching prices in my area. I am in SF Bay Area if that matters.

You don't need lessons to go from 2.0 to 3.0. Just a practice partner. Find someone else around your level and play them.

call or email the local HS and college coaches and ask if there are any players that want to make extra money as hitting partners.

That’s what happens, but you get better with your bad technique the more you groove it. Then you wonder why some days you’re “on” and some days “off”.

Why some days you're "on" with bad technique?

I assume if it's bad technique, you'll always be "off"

I like the OP's idea. Teaching and learning for recreational players is rarely straightforward as only the good X level player can teach.

A few summers ago I taught a couple for cheap and I was nowhere 4.5 or whatever. It was simply that they saw what I could do (and they couldn't) and they wanted that.
