If i could only give them a shot.......

Stefan Edberg (Pete Sampras forehand) - This would have fitted perfectly with Stefans aggressive flattish backhand and attacking style. It was also a super approach shot. Stefans forehand was pretty ordinary and i am sure this shot would have put him close to the top of the historical tree.

Ivan Lendl (Pete Sampras forehand volley) - The addition of this shot may have won him Wimbledon. His FV was always suspect especially against the best on grass who could return his serve back low. It was a tossup against the Sampras second serve which would have allowed him to hit less volleys full stop.

Jimmy Connors (Gorans first serve) - What really need be said lol

Yannick Noah (Agassi's forehand) - Yannick's forehand was powerless most times, this shot would have given him penetration + and also allowed him to still play on top of the baseline waiting for a short ball.

Andre Agassi (Sampras first serve) - So many extra free points he wouldn't know what to do with em.

Pete Sampras (Edberg's backhand) - Pete had quite a good and effective backhand in his hey day but Stefan's was a lot more consistent overall. Not that much one would want to change when it comes to Pete.

Leyton Hewitt (Lendl's forehand) - This shot would give Hewitt a much needed weapon and power boost from the back of the court. Not many come out on top of Lendl's forehand.

Roger Federer (Pete's first serve) - Picking at straws again really. He has one of the most complete games ever.

Andy Roddick - (Agassi's backhand) - This addition would REALLY improve him!

Any others for some fun guys?

Carlos Moya (Nalbandian's Backhand) - He would be unstoppable from the baseline. Moya just can barely even keep his backhand in play now, so if he had Nalbandian's awesome shot to go down the line, get a weak return and put away the forehand on every point practically. Maybe even Ferrero's backhand from last years US Open, that was unstoppable. It's a tossup. You were really good with a lot of yours though.

I noticed how you were giving a lot of people various parts of Sampras's game. Isn't that strange?
Well, I would say that there are a lot of people who were without a shot or two and still succeeded, like I think Roddick will, even though he is in need of a forehand volley no less than Lendl. I also would have made some different shot selections for the players that you said needed a certain shot, but I agree with you on most of the players who need certain shots.
Henman could always use a better ground game, but I am sure Roddick would love to have Henman's net game. Very few players are complete.

G.O.A.T.
Nalbandian (Coria's movement/speed) The only weakness in his game imo, he has got to the semi's or better in a GS on 3 different surfaces and Big Dave could definetly improve with a bit more manouverability.

Ivanisevic(Chang's foot speed)- He would be an opponents nightmare.

Krajicek(Federer's backhand)- He wouldn't have a single weakness with that addition.

Safin(Muster's determination)- That would be an evil combination.

LMAO@Liam hahaha good one!! Some great additions guys, good to see you in the swing! Moya with a backhand weapon wow! I bet you have the shot outcomes right too.

Yeah Nadal fancy that hehehe :) I rate Lendl's forehand better than Edberg's but in the particular case Edberg would be far better served by Pete. There are prolly FV's better than Pete's. MAYBE Stefan,s but he came easily to mind. As far as his serve goes it's my fave ever.

It's good to see Liam Kobble and Vlad bringing in the intangibles of Brains, determination and speed/movement too. Some guys already have the shots to do a lot better but lack the speed or intestinal fortitude etc.

Monica Seles (Graf's speed) - You guys sure made that spring to mind, Monica's big prob after her comeback was movement and while we're going

Lindsay Davenport (Graf's speed) - Her shots i feel are as good as anyones, her movement however.....

Johnny Mac (Lendl's manic determination toward training) - Was Mac ever even 60% fit? I severely doubt it.

Pam Shriver (Graf's forehand) - *Imagine going from a punchless shovel slice forehand to THAT! lol

Hana Mandlikova (Martina's dedication to tennis) - Up until a few years ago THEE most talented female i've seen.

Marat (Pete's composure and determination) - the only person that beats Safin is Safin himself
He needs to have a good summer and if he keeps his pants on he's got a shot at the US Open.

Yeah John, Mandlikova was a great talent, kind of reminded me of McEnroe with her flair. If she had Martina's focus, she easily would have been in double digit slam wins.
So who is women's player that has replaced her as the most talented?

Agree totally speedofpain88, and others do too.

Hmmmmm good question Kev. Subconsciously i was thinking with all the power and supreme serves and groundies today she might be able to have her best day ever and still lose to the likes of the Williams's etc, but i might be wrong too. Hana had every shot and then some, no doubt her ALL ROUND talent was better than these gals. What are ya thoughts Kev?

I believe talent is timeless, John. Mandlikova would be able to contend with today's players if she grew up in their era, played with similar equipment, had access to the same trainers, etc. Considering how much more versatile she is than today's players, I'd like her chances.
Also, I think Mandlikova had pretty good pace on all her shots, her decline was due more to her lack of discipline. I've seen matches with her blasting winners past Navratilova with a wood racquet from the baseline.
Yeah, I think she's the most talented(and one of the most athletic) women's player I've ever seen.

That is a good question. I dont' follow the women as much as the men but really I can't think of an answer here. Although the current women have talent, I can't think of many who have displayed some of the more refined qualities of talent such as touch, variety, creativity, soft hands, graceful movement. Most seem fixated on simply working the groundstrokes....

That's a ripper too Matt. As a second choice i would give him a forehand weapon, but the big serve would sure help him along.

Also i have to agrre with you Data and Kev. Mandlikova had a beautiful quality to her game, and when on fire was simply astonishing.
