If Nadal and Federer played a match like this...

If Nadal and Federer played a mismatch of court characteristics that favored both of them where :

Court surface : Clay
Court speed : med-fast
Outdoor/Indoor : Indoor
Climate control : Wimbledon Center Court (when roof is closed)

The 2007 version of each player would be playing this match. Who would win? Why? Would it be close at all? What would the scoreline be like?

If it was clay, Nadal would have a huge advantage regardless of the rest of the characteristics. He prefers the high bounce, and it fits his strokes, speed and fitness.

I only ask this because I have a hard time understanding why Federer could take Nadal to 4 sets multiple times at RG and it took several tries for Djokovic to do this once. Would the conditions allow Federer to get Nadal to 5?

Sounds like Madrid inside the Magic Box

In a sense yes

Well let me sort that hard time out for you then.

The reason Novak needed several tries to take Nadal to 4 sets is because Novak was still a teen in 2006 & 2007. In 2008 Nadal's level was so high that no version of Fed would've taken a set off him, so we can't really blame Novak for losing in straights here.

Federer otoh, was in his peak when he played Nadal from 05-07. The 08 match was a disaster for Fed and the 2011 match was the closest probably due to the balls that were being used that tournament as well as Nadal not playing near his best level.

One decisive factor missing.. what color is the clay? Red or Blue?

I think the Battle of the surfaces in 2007 sums it all ? A side made with clay, a side made with grass.
Of course you guess who wins at the end ... ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8Biz3P9u94

Why would you choose a Nadal that has only been on tour for about years vs a Federer who has been on tour for about 6-7

That court was ridiculous :| just look at that match point. How did those guys play an entire match on that?

Considering they had to change shoes during every turnover and the fact that grass looks like mud on the video (that bad bounce on MP as well), it's not that good of an indication.

The umpire has to be Pascal Maria simply because it's traditional. I don't get why he gets hate on this board sometimes though. :/
