If You Had to Pick A Player To Play For Your Life

Picking the surface/conditions?

Nadal, 90 degrees at the FO. Nadal at his 2008 best.

I would live a long life.

I could never pick Nadal, imagine all that time waiting between points, with your life on the line. I'd probably just die from the tensions alone.

At least with Federer, I'd know if I was going to die or live relatively quickly.

It would depend entirely on the surface and the event.

If it was clay/French Open then you'd have to pick Rafa.

Hard Courts: Djokovic

Grass: Federer

I would never pick Djokovic over Federer (assuming prime for prime) on HC's overall.

Maybe at the AO specifically and even then I would pick Federer on rebound ace and Djokovic on plexicushion, but at the USO, Federer, all day and all night.

Let's try this variation. Suppose you did NOT know the surface on which the match would be played. It will be a best of five match on fast grass, slow grass, carpet, hard court outdoors (fast or slow), hard court indoors (again fast or slow), red clay or green clay. Whom would you select?

If I didn't know the surface or the opponent for one match I would revert back to my Nadal pick just because I know that for one match against any opponent on any surface Nadal could potentially win any match he plays.

Whereas, hypothetically if Federer (or anybody else for that matter) had to play Nadal on clay they'd be f.u.c.k.e.d.

EDIT: Just thought about Bjorn Borg. He might even edge Nadal in this scenario for me honestly.

Nadal would bend over on Indoor Hards against a top player. At least Federer is only screwed against one guy on clay.

I'll amend my previous post a bit by saying that I would pick Borg over Nadal in the above scenario anyway. You can feel free to try and change my mind or not, but right now I'm saying Borg.

Depends on the terms.

On my terms:
Nadal over 5 sets at Monte Carlo/French Open

On opponent's terms:
Borg

On random terms:
Federer

Assuming the surface, conditions etc etc to be random (a surprise) I have to pick a guy who is consistent against most of them in tour.

Can't pick someone who is a complete mystery with lot of factors to be for his liking (Venue can't be in an altitude, Balls can't be lighter, Clay cannot be blue, Roof cannot be closed, Surface can't be pacy etc etc...)

So ---> Peak Federer would be my choice with full confidence that he could get the job done even if the surface was GLASS..

Nadal would die on court for you? The same Nadal who quits and starts trying to come up with what injury to pretend he had after the match whenever he gets significantly behind?

Anyway, I'll go with Borg.
