If you were using vs team 17g, what would you cross it with for max.:

Crispness, or for:
Spin, or:
Control
Power
Feel
Durability
Playability

What tension would you use? Higher on mains or crosses?
18 x 20 or 16 x 19?
Lots of folks like alu power or alu pow. rough, for control reasons. But what about that crisp feel, like a high pitched clink sound.

I liked blackcode for crispness. I like bbo for power. I liked alu for control but only for a short while. I like ace 18g for touch. What did you use and like the most?

Alu Rough, as I currently do ;)

Great crispness, control, feel, power and touch.

8-10 good playing hours in a 16x19 98 SQ" head.

VS team 17 mains: 26 kg
Alu Rough crosses: 24 kg

Rough and Team would last me about 2 hours.

You guys must be GOATing℠ tons of cash.

What about Tour Bite 17 + VS Team?

Anyone try that hybrid?

At the moment I am playing with KLIP Legend 17 in the mains with Luxilon Ace in the crosses. 9 hours, no signs of breaking, and minimal notching. 55 on the mains 57 crosses...

I don't hit as hard and with as much spin as you do, so I get 8-10 hours out of my VS team 17 mains and Alu Rough crosses in my 98 SQ" 16X19 racquets

I tried that combo. The tour bite made the job feel powerful, but not a lot of control or crispness.

Doubles I am thinking of this trying your exact setup and tensions on my Head Prestige MP's.....currently playing intellitour 16 and looking for just a little more bite with the same comfort....I've tried some straight poly setups and can't deal with the shock.....

Tell me some more please on how it hits and how you came up with your set up:)

I strung up my racquet with Klip armour pro mains and alu power in the crosses, 27/26 kg. And I`m really liking this combination! First time I`ve played with gut.

Great feel and touch, especially at the net (played doubles last night).

But can any of you compare armour pro and vs team? Should I just stick with the armour pro or perhaps try vs team instead the next time?

If you got some cash to spare, I would go for it! Don't you want to know why people say VS Team is the best?

He he, of course I do :) Just wanted to know what the main differences between these two could be.

Luckily for me I`m buying some of my own presents this year :)

Good way to reward yourself with the best string out there. Only downside is you may not be able to come back down the mountain and you might end up like ClubHoUno with pics of his stash.

I only use 12-14 sets of VS Team a year, but yeah it's my fav string of all time :D

Wow, I just saw this, if you see this, I hope it helps. I get plenty of spin from this set up, and because of the 18x20, there is minimal notching. Power is great due to the natural gut and the thin poly, and feel is also good for the same reasons. I thought this was actually softer then full intellitour...

Really? spiky shark for most spin? JW, but have you tried BG or Barbwire?

You were saying it was good for 14-15 hours a few weeks ago.

Nothing like plucking figures out of thing air.

I believe he said that was in an 18x20 racket. Seriously, all you do is go out of your way to insult this guy. I'm sure you can find more productive uses of your time...

Precisely !

GameSetMatch proves once again that all he is, is a spam trolling little teen from Nottingham. He only contributes with spam and hateposts on this forum!

I used to play mostly with 18x20 95SQ" racquets.

16x19 98SQ" - 8-10 hours
18x20 95SQ" - 12-14 hours

I found that spiky shark did not have the spin of either bg or barb wire.
I would have guessed that the main mechanism for spin in a M-gut X-poly setup is the lack of friction, which would suggest a smooth poly as a cross. Have you found that these textured polys add to spin even when used only in a cross, or is it just coincidence that the polys being mentioned here are textured?

That is a very good question. Common sense would tell you that the mains cause all the spin, due to their horizontal orientation, but it is not so. Crosses also can cause spin, just not as much, when bg is used as a main, with gut cross, and vice versa, as I have done it both ways, although it is the top spin string I have tried other than barb wire, and I have done both with barb wire as well.... Crosses/spin strings do provide spin, but it is cut by about 25% or so.

Hey thanks dubs!

Did you ever try any of the Klip hybrid gut sets they sell....?? Cheaper choice but probably no where near as good as your set up....

I plan on giving your recco set up a whirl....probably in the i Prestige MP's.

Thanks again and happy new year!

Happy New Year, hr!

No, I didn't I just used my Hybrid set up. It was pretty good. But the last set snapped in a really weird way. I'll post some pics tomorrow of it, since I was planning on writing a review anyways...

I own reels of both Spiky Shark and Blue Gear 18, and SS gives more spin IMO. It's also an extremely soft poly string, which I absolutely love, so it's just a win-win situation for me :)

Blue Gear is just too stiff, and although it doesn't hurt my arm any at all, it just has zero feel.

I have not tried barb wire, but hope to get some. I have some tour bite that I've been sitting on and have never tried as well.

The ultra has better feel, but no poly has good feel. Spiky shark did not compare with either barb wire, bg, bgu, for spin. Similar to tour bite. Tried them all, in several variations.
