I'm starting a racquet company - how would you design your perfect racquet?

Within 3 months, that’s very ambitious plan.
Manufacturing bulk items are not easy to achieve especially quality controls.
Also without sponsorship, very hard to be successful in this business.
Producing quality products are not easy to achieve and concentrate on making good products in the beginning.
Good luck with your journey.
Sorry, but where is any of this information coming from? I probably shouldn't engage with a comment like this but bulk manufacturing, (by definition!) is easy, the frame quality has already been proven as we're using the same factory as a couple of the other major brands and we're sponsoring a few players but the main marketing channels are tennis instagram/youtube accounts which have a far greater engagement/conversion rate than traditional sponsorship. If anything, 3 months is a conservative figure...
He was planning to launch end of Feb. And @kimguroo was right. It was a very ambitious plan. He is already almost 2 months behind.

a bit late, but for me, an ideal racket would be.
a kind of adaptive head, a frame (without handle), like PT57 P280, P230 , or flexible frame, (lower than 55RA), light (under 280g) two layouts of choice, 16/19 or 18/20, with a set of handle (head TS82 type), weighing from 5 to 25g, and grommet games with weights included (or to be included) from 5 to 40g ...

which would make frames of 290g (frame 280g + handle 5g + grommet 5g) to frames of 345g (frame 280g + handle 25g + grommet 40g)

Make 3 rackets 93 98 and 100
Make them all flexible give it a cool name make up a Cool “””” revolutionary “”engineering term for using cheap fibreglass with a loose carbon matrix .
Use Wilson grips . Save a ton of money and not use any paint .. hydro dip them with films . Buy out the defunct estusa name .

The contract with Sureshs as the lead sponsor fell through.

I believe the sticking point may have been the parameters of the signature frame model, as sueeywsh wants us to feel what he feels and release a frame to his exact specifications.

Designer wrist assists and cortex cream with the rolls royce logo could be coming soon though.

OP didn't know what he didn't know.

I've been in hard good, footwear and apparel manufacturing for years and things never go as quickly or smoothly as you would first think. It's part of the learning process.

Also factories that make products for larger companies are not going to prioritize smaller, niche production runs and brands.

Not to say he won't be radically successful, but there were some red herrings at the ease to which the OP thought things would go.

So, 15 months later, any updates on this company?

Sounds a lot like Elon Musk telling the public he will have an autonomous semi truck ready to go on roads in like 2 years.

This company is off to a great start, boy I sure didn't see this coming

-this almost sounds like DAHCOR tennis racquet!? you've seen these right?

You can still copy the layup.

ditto to this. People only chase Austria frames for its QA. But at this rate if you can replicate the layup, balance, and offers variety of weight. I think it would be a good sell. Look at Head and how they’re sort of going back to player frames.

16x19 and 18x20 option would also be good.

I really want to have a manufacturer give custom string pattern options. 16x19 and 18x20 are the two main camps, but why are we stopping there? 18x19 has been a game changer for Djokovic, and there’s a reason the 18x17 frames sold so well. The machine that drills the holes can have programs for infinitely different patterns, so it’s not like a Herculean effort is required to give me a 10x19 PS90.

It's not that simple. Different string patterns place different stresses on the hoop. Also changes other specifications including Racquet Balance, SW, etc. etc.

There is quite a bit of tech. research and testing involved in the design and development of every model. It's not simply a case of drilling holes.

That’s interesting I didn’t know that! I guess it makes sense why 18x20 and 16x19 dominate the market then. Do you know anything about how they make frames with more open patterns like the 93P 14x18?

If I was designing my own tennis racquet from the ground up I would first look at the combination of materials in the racquet for structure and flexibility. Examples of this is what is the strongest and lightest material? What polymer would work best with that material. Examples that come to mind are Graphene, Kevlar, and Spectra. I would go for quality over all else, do it right or dont do it at all. There are so many items that go into designing, researching, and implementing everything needed in a racquet/apparel company.

perhaps there isn't new line; half of all new businesses fail in the first five years.
(and that was pre-pandemic; things have gotten considerably worse)

It costs 10x more than most people would guess. A single mold and tooling can be $100k+ by the time you're ready to start making production frames.

It is since you just need to copy what's already out there and add a personal twist to it.
Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Take an existing design, add your marketing "technology" to it, and get some pros to use it.

ok guys, in that case im going to go read “go dogs go” by dr suess so i can go engineer a car thats faster than a bugatti veyron. Ill just copy what they did in go dogs go and add a personal twist.

lol, you guys are like the kind of people who think you would easily be able to understand geometry even though you cant tell the difference between a square and a triangle. Learn some humility ladies. Engineering is something very few ppl can actually do.

I'm sure tennis racquet engineers have their own unique challenges, but it ain't exactly rocket surgery.

Bro I am dumb as a rock, but my professional background is in RnD manufacturing in the semiconductor industry and later the medical device industry. Next time you go in for surgery, take a good look at that class II anesthesia machine keeping you alive. Ol' booger might have helped with the prototypes. Let that sink in.

Are you saying that a team of you’s would be able to create this anaesthesia machine?

because if you could then nobody is going to believe you when you say you are dumb.

engineering school isnt hard. Its just hard if you are stupid.

if you really are dumb as a rock then whatever you contributed to the actual viability of your companies anesthesia machine was probably as trivial as what the paint color was.

I already predicted before. This project was too ambitious. Glad this was not crowdfunding form since many crowdfunding projects went bad (Either do not deliver items or making bad products.)
Manufacturing products are not an easy task. Quality controls, know-how, funding, marketing etc.. have to be there.

Yeah. Even if you think you have the right plans/blueprints to copy a previously engineered product, trying to successfully pull it off when your engineering illiterate is like going scuba diving with sharks while your bleeding. Its not going to end well.

No one on here understands the engineering behind rackets. You're asking the wrong people.
This is definitely true for ppl who think anybody can do engineering.

its like somebody who says they find mathematics boring because they wanted to be rewarded by the teacher for their language based answer on the test that 2+2 should equal 5.

Depends if he actually intends to build the racquets himself. If an engineer and a woodworker examined a Maxply and tried to copy it, your money should be on the woodworker.

Started at page 1 and skipped to page 6, no sense in reading the frills and spills BS...has this wonder racquet made it to the courts yet?
