Is loose grip really a good thing?

One advantage of a loose grip....

If you hold the racket really, really, loose then, sometimes, not always, it will fly right out of your hand toward the opposing player and give them a bit of a scare- possibly just enough of a factor to tip a hotly contested point in your favor. Shouting "wheee, wheeee, wheeeee!" as you strike the ball adds that extra je ne sais quoi.

You're not the only one. Sometimes even the great man himself has had the occasional off day (and it wasn't pretty).
But you get my point, right? About the potential issues that can arise with the hips, shoulders going one way while the racket is going the other aka ‘flip’?
You don’t have that issue for example on Hewitt‘s forehand, or Halep’s or any other forehand without that flip.

Sure. I'm guessing your memory is fading, old man!

Interesting that there's another video circulating, pointing out just how bad the vertical racquet drop on the forehand is:

While I understand their position, I'm not yet convinced it's as bad as they claim. In a case like yours I would just let whatever lag happens naturally and go for some kind of loop forehand ; Goffin, Carreno Busta, Agassi, and Hewitt all use a good sized loop but the former 2 have a bit of lag depending on the ball they are hitting.

Caroline Garcia has a more traditional WTA forehand with wrist supination on a large take back, but she is also able to create quite a bit of lag when she wants to. That's an example of the variation that exists.

Oh man so much stuff to read in those threads.
