General public, almost certainly no. Some KOW won't even allow parents of players in to watchDoes anyone know if the public will be allowed to watch ITA Indoor Championships this coming February?
appears attendance is upto the schools and conference and is very limited in allowance of outside fans. Will mainly see student athletes in attendance.
Always dreaming. But good luck. With the new Variant virus hitting the Illinois as well, you can forget about any fans being allowed in. Luckfully we have live cams in this indoors to watch Stanford take home the title
Don't worry, you will still be able to watch Stanford win the title on webcam. they won't allow fans into the stadium, they already confirmed thatAlways dreaming. But good luck.
Stanford isn't playing at the indoors.....Don't worry, you will still be able to watch Stanford win the title on webcam. they won't allow fans into the stadium, they already confirmed that
Well they were never going to win it even if they did play. More feddy fantasy.Stanford isn't playing at the indoors.....

which is why them winning the indoors will be even more impressive ........
Why is Standford not competing at indoors / kickoff weekend? COVID related? No, i meant NCAA championships. They will win the NCAA championships with ease
No, scheduling conflict. Why is Standford not competing at indoors / kickoff weekend? COVID related?
@Nostradamus When will Stanford actually play a match(no schedule posted)? I did read the team wont return to campus until February 13-that was from a mid January article. Will they be practicing next week or will practice be delayed further? All the other PAC-12 teams have played matches-most have played 4 or more though UCLA has only played 2 but has 3 more scheduled in Feb, and Cal has played 3 but doesnt have any more on schedule until March 26. USC has played 6 already and of course will play at National Indoors. What gives in the difference in scheduling between different Cali universities? I think only the Ivy League has less scheduled matches-I dont think any of their spring sports can start until March. Too bad for Columbia which is usually a top 20 team, and other Ivys were top 30.
I wonder how the ITA will change rankings to reflect some teams and conferences will have a later start than others. In the past, a certain number of top wins would count each week (up to 10) in the ITA ranking calculation (and all losses counted). With some teams starting late and playing fewer matches, some teams may never get to the 10 win threshold. The current ITA rankings are based on coaches' votes and not a calculation yet. Stanford is still ranked #6 even though they have not played a match...However, usually the first computerized rankings come out after National Team Indoors so Stanford should drop unless the ITA sticks with coaches' poll until sometime in March.
Based on your post, it appears you answered your own question. They would have to travel to Orlando which is not "essential" nor is it "safe".Until the United States has covid lockdown like Australia to turn around the covid tide, the UK, South African and Brazil covid variants will be the normal here in the US very soon. No one should be travel at the moment, unless it is "essential". I don't think playing ITA indoor is considered "essential", especially when the tournament is hosted indoor at U. of Ill. Just a bad idea to begin with.
Why don't they hold the event at USTA in Orlando? At least there, it is "outdoor" and safe with social distancing.

Well, I did think about it, and any universities on the East side of the Miss. rivers can drive to USTA instead of flying. Any universities on the west side of the Miss river don't have to come. It is much safer to drive (with people you know that are tested and covid free) than flying. Once they are in Orlando, it is "outdoor" which is much safer, IMHO. Sometime you just have to accept the lesser of two evils. You're not going to get me to be anywhere indoor anywhere except my own home because covid variants are everywhere.
Unless the university of Illinois decided to create a "buble" environment for the ITA event like what the NBA did in Orlando for the 2020 season, that might work. However, I don't think the ITA event organizers have the $$$ to make that happen.
LOL,, it is ITA ""INDOOR"" tournament. that should explain. no pun intended
Are you seriously trying to get some meaningful information out of @Nostradamus? And that information being Stanford related? I mean he clearly does not play tennis, does not follow tennis, and has nothing to do with Stanford either.....@Nostradamus When will Stanford actually play a match(no schedule posted)? He may live in Cali and have heard about an unofficial schedule. The last statement from Stanford was mid January saying practice would start 2/13; if the team really starts practice in a few days, someone on this board has probably heard something about when the team will start to play matches. Doesn't Nostradamus at least attend matches? I know he likes to troll people but I thought he was a fan. Actually he did have some legit info in his last post-2 Stanford freshmen are on the list of UTR of top 10 freshmen and Stanford's Fery is #1 on the list slightly above Virginia's von der Schulenberg. However after the VA freshmen's performance at the Kickoff, most of us would bet he'd take Fery in straights. Are you seriously trying to get some meaningful information out of @Nostradamus? I mean I'm clearly joking and do not know @Nostradamus personally at all. I'm just going by the, ahem, quality of his posts. Why is Standford not competing at indoors / kickoff weekend? COVID related?
while it is well known that both Stanford tennis teams did not participate in indoors this year due to COVID concerns. I mean what kind of scheduling conflict they have since they were _planning to be the host_ for the kickoff qualifying tournament. Did the coaches a week before that well in advanced planned tournament realized that the Stanford tennis courts are going to be taken for some seniors clinic that weekend or something? No, scheduling conflict.

and his 'legit info on new players' is information publicly known, it's not like one needs to be any sort of insider to know that.

Played in Dallas. Baylor won 4-1. So far, Baylor has beaten 3 top ten teams in UT, Michigan and Texas A&M but lost to TCU. Tremendous depth but not sure they are strong enough at the top to win a national title this year. Too bad Brooksby turned pro. Will be interesting to find out what happens with the Baylor/Texas A&M match since the final at Michigan host site (scheduled for today but canceled last day) could not be played due to Univ of Mich shutting down all athletics for 14 days due to 5 athletes (dont know what sports) testing positive for more contagious COVID variant. https://mgoblue.com/news/2021/1/23/...hletics-enters-department-wide-activity-pause
Since both universities are in Texas, it should not be too hard to find a neutral site in Texas in the near future to play that final. With major upsets during the kickoff weekend including 3 hosts losing, there could be significant changes in team rankings that could affect seedings for National Indoors.
I wouldn't be surprised if Baylor beats TCU in the conference tournament. Baylor won the doubles point but came out slow in singles. TCU won 5 first sets and just kind of took it to them. I don't think it's fair to say they aren't contenders. They might not have a Bloomberg or Cukierman up top but they are an experienced team and play some good doubles which always helps. I think they are certainly in the mix!Played in Dallas. Baylor won 4-1. So far, Baylor has beaten 3 top ten teams in UT, Michigan and Texas A&M but lost to TCU. LOL... just kidding im not going to do that. But I think in Tennis - playing indoors vs outdoors is a pretty big difference. Teams like Ohio State/UNC/Columbia normally do well at ITA indoors because they practice indoors alot / their teams playing style is better suited for indoor tennis. If you move ITA indoors outside for COVID reasons they would just basically be playing NCAA's. I get what your saying for sure, but its not exactly an equal comparison in my eyes!LOL... did you know that the 2021 Rose Bowl football game was played in Arlington Texas instead of Pasadena, California.? In the time of covid pandemic, everyone needs to be flexible.
Some of the early rounds of the NCAA team tourney which is supposed to be outdoors are played indoors due to rain. So there is no guarantee that indoors will be indoors and outdoors will be outdoors. I think there is supposed to be some flex in the NCAA schedule but if it looks like rain for a whole weekend, then the matches are played indoors. I watched an early round one year and both days the matches were indoors. Even in the later rounds, sometimes the matches are indoors-one of the years that UGA was hosting NCAAs they had to move matches to GA Tech which was probably close to 90 min drive away-the situation was made worse since UGA only had 4 indoor courts while GT had 6. Nothing more fun that NCAAs in Athens when sun is shining but I doubt they will host again without 6 indoor courts and who knows when that will happen-silly to me that UGA redid their outdoor stands when they still have not added two more indoor courts. If you move ITA indoors outside for COVID reasons they would just basically be playing NCAA's. Very good points. In addition, the qualifying tournaments for the Indoor championships are played outdoors very often. So this Indoor vs Outdoor thing, while obviously it does make a difference for a given team, is not really that logical/fair end to end. Some of the early rounds of the NCAA team tourney which is supposed to be outdoors are played indoors due to rain. I'd be open to your idea from here Orlando is 11.5 hours drive with few stops. Given 12 hour and more + drive times for teams that would qualify for this tourney even on the east side of the Miss. river, not sure many coaches would be up for the trip. Trying to regionalize it may have been another possibility. My guess is the ITA and NCAA just figured to go with what events they can do for 2021 and let teams make their own calls. Here's to 2022.Well, I did think about it, and any universities on the East side of the Miss. rivers can drive to USTA instead of flying. Any universities on the west side of the Miss river don't have to come. It is much safer to drive (with people you know that are tested and covid free) than flying. I believe it will return to being a sixteen team draw post-pandemic.So are both the men's and women's ITA Indoors permanently 8 teams instead of 16, or was this year's 8-team draws just because of Covid?
Wow it really pains me to say this but that was a really good take.I will predict Illinois will upset few teams in this indoor tournament. they seem to play well at home and are very underrated
Wow it really pains me to say this but that was a really good take.
FTFYI am pretty much a stable genius so that shouldn't surprise you. Anyway, USC looked very tired and off form. I saw this upset coming after the doubles loss
That Freshman Hunter Heck is a really good addition to their team + having guys like Zeke Clark I am sure has helped team culture not to mention he clinched two matches for them. Really cool to see!Nice weekend for the home team. Knocked off USC and then came back from down 3-0 to beat UVa without Kovacevic. Maybe they'll get a few voted in the next poll.
Even their women would have won it most seem to think. One observation i was able to make. All these teams that made it to the indoor NCAA D1 tournament are weak, no dominant team. Cardinal would have beaten all these teams convincingly
Heck played 1 year as a 7th grader at my alma mater. He was a little kid at the time (I think he played 3rd singles on a really good team). Didn't know he would turn out to be that good. His mother also has played USTA doubles with both of my sisters in the past. That Freshman Hunter Heck is a really good addition to their team + having guys like Zeke Clark I am sure has helped team culture not to mention he clinched two matches for them.
