It's predictability that is hurting Nadal most against Fed.

Interestingly, what Fed's been doing a lot lately is hitting to Nadal's forehand wide knowing that he's not able to be as explosive on that wing as he use to - and it seems to be working pretty well. Most of the time, Fed does such a good job of stretching Nadal wide on his backhand that he can usually hit some amazing cross-court shots on Nadal's forehand that he can't get to these days and if he does he's usually so far behind the baseline that it rarely makes it over the net.

Pretty ironic, considering that the entire tour has been doing that as of late to Fed

Exactly, and in the past, with Nadal's physic abilities on top or good, that was a risky option because he arrived to all the balls well placed and unleashed the FH DTL to dominate Fed. None of those are anymore: nor the ability to arrive on time and well placed to hit the FH but also the DTL FH itself
