Johnny Mac's gotta go

Johnny Mac's the best commentator on NBC AND ESPN. The other's are much worse to listen too in my opinion.

Say what you want about Mary, but I NEVER hear her, during a match, drone on and on about the great match she had with Martina N..

She didn't have any!

not the best commentator but better than dick enberg and cliff drysdale

McEnroe is quite subdued on BBC live broadcasts. I watched online. I think he aims at what he thinks the respective audiences would enjoy, depending on what network he's commentating on.

BBC ...stick to the match

ESPN...blah, blah, blah

Have heard Becker as a guest commentator, he's good, but don't know how well his thick German accent will suit American broadcast.

Our governor has a thick German accent and it's actually working well for us. It helps us forget whatever he's really saying and we are transported for a brief moment into the alpine wonderland of yodels, goatherds, and edelweiss. I would welcome Becker or maybe Melzer or Thomas Muster.

I love Johnny Mac and I love Roger but I could definitely see how some of the other players might get annoyed about the love fest. I think it's pretty genuine, but I have to admit the fact that they are both in the Nike camp makes me question some of the "objectivity."

JMac maybe a bad commentator but the truth is, hes one of the only tennis players that a majority of non-tennis playing americans know. Therefore it give NBC credibility when he commentates, idk how long it will take people on this forum to realize that the tv networks in america try their best to appeal to the majority of americans not the minority that avidly follow tennis

Ted Robinson asked Mac a question about Federer's racquet and pro racquets in general and he absolutely butchered his answer.

I usually like Mac, but to talk of Pete handing the trophy to' King Fed early on in the match is just poor IMO.

Lol.

He's getting old, I agree. He doesn't need to go though, I mean, look at Bud Collins. He's destined to die soon. But one thing's for sure- McEnroe NEEDS to shut the hell up once in a while.

Getting old ? - What..anybody with grey hair is getting old & useless - watch out middle agers, this is the generation that's going to sign the ' Euthanasia Bill':(

ps - where in Suffolk, anyway near Oakdale, that's where I grew up as a little tot.

JMac really missed the opportunity late in the 5th set to try to explain to the audience what might be running through Fed's and Roddick's minds...should Fed change strategy since he hasn't broken Andy yet?? Should Andy be choking right now cuz the moment is too big for him--I'm not worthy?? Why not invite Ilie Nastase into the booth for some insight?

Watching tennis on NBC and ESPN2 makes a tennis junky long for Tennis Channel. NBC and ESPN2 are geared for non-tennis players. I remember the great Nadal-Verdasco match where ESPN2had Pat Mac making comment after comment about how long the match was going. Sad, as Pat Mac has a lot to say. I think they dumbed him down for the non-tennis audience. Keep it up Tennis Channel.

"Mac can't let go of the spotlight. Everything reverts back to him-"

I remember at a ceremony for Lendl at the USO a few years back Jmac, in typical form, went into a LONG and BORING story about getting a bad line call from an umpire at the USO JUNIOR TOURNAMENT.

He wouldn't shut up. It was supposed to be Lendl's day but JMac kept droning on about himself.

I thought he was pretty good as a commentator early on but he's devolved into a blowhard.
