junior tennis is tougher in many ways than adults

Juniors you have such a huge variety of skill levels; while in Adults, you can play levels based on similar skill levels.
I find Adult tennis much more fair.

this is true, i played an 18s open and i played a kid who was probably rated 2.5 or 3.0 and i was done with him in 15 minutes.

in junior open tournaments only kids like myself will make it to the latter stages, while there are often little to no other levels to register in

Adult tournies have NTRP ratings.
A 5.5 adult is like a nationally ranked (50-10) junior.

Ihate, those lotto shoes are the best !!!

I must have gotten the bottom-of-the-line Lottos or ones that had been sitting in a warehouse since the Clinton administration because I wore my pair out in one month. Granted I'm tough on shoes but one month??

Many Juniors I have seen are more behaved than many Adults on the court. !!!!

Agreed. There's no age limit on acting childish.

All of the juniors I've run into [a grand total of maybe a half dozen] have been very well-behaved and were a pleasure to hit with. However, I've also only run into a very few unpleasant adults that acted like whiny brats.

SV, those shoes fit like a glove and really grip the court.
I am gentle on my shoes and they can last me 9 months to a full year.

similar ratings exist for chess players, and table tennis players... why not tennis?

Similarly for ITF seniors, only divided by age. Apart from some categories of the tournament itself, you go to play +40 for instance, you win the first match 60 60 because a local guy from that club just wanted to test himself, and the next round you lose 60 60 to a former pro or whatever. Not easy to get some fun.

I would prefer an NTRP rating, independently of age but purely on level. I think it doesnt exist in this part of the world.

As I recall, there are chess tournaments specifically for certain younger age groups but there's nothing that prevents a young un' from entering an adult tournament [ie Bobby Fischer, who won the US Open at 14]. It can be unnerving, though, to play an opponent who needs a booster chair to reach the board who then proceeds to demolish you while staring out into space for the majority of the time.

How interested would adult tennis players be in a global rating system, if the system was able to provide seamless ratings across all age groups? And... how would this help you enjoy tennis more?

I dont care about age groups. I care about rating of level. I am 46 now and I feel no physical difference with an 18 years old. I would like a global rating system independent of age.
However I can understand some Seniors prefer age groups.

I agree. Skill level, not age per se, is what matters to me. I'm more likely to be the crusher or the crushee [more likely the crushee] if I play an age bracket.

Been there; done that! Those who dismiss their opponent with the "hits like a little girl" have not had to face off against a little girl who can blast groundies off both sides and actually make one hesitate coming to the net for fear of getting the Penn logo tattooed on one's chest.:)
