Klip Legend--16 or 17g??

Well have spent alot of time yesterday and today reading up on the Klip Legend and am pretty set on ordering some--but what gauge?? From some of the other posts-the legend seems to play a little thicker--i.e 17g is really closer to 16g. How is the durability of the 17g--how many hours are ya'll getting?

PS--I hit a few balls this afternoon with a buddy's stick who has full Legend 17g at 55# in a Vokl frame (not sure which one)--felt very sweet. I am stoked. I plan on stringing one stick up with Cyperpower (1.25) or Big Ace (1.22) crosses and another with either a syn gut such as Pro Supex Titan or may use some PSGM as crosses. :) The cyberpower may work well as a cross since it holds it's tension pretty well, but then again so does the BA--HELP a BROTHER OUT!!!:-?

Yea it's me again giving you advice on this hybrid ha. I use mine as a 16g with Big Ace crosses and I love it. I have gotten about 7 hours on the stringjob so far and it's just starting to fray and notch. I only use it in matches and most of our matches this year have been cancelled because Mother Nature hates Wisconsin, but I forsee the combo going at least 45-50 hours for me. As for your crosses, I can't see you going wrong with Cyberpower crosses either, but I've never used it. I used it with Cyberflash crosses however, and that was decent. I'd go with Big Ace over Cyberflash for sure, but Cyberpower should probably be just as good.

What gauge BA are you using? Also, what are your tensions? Thanks-KC

Went with the 17g to test out first--we'll see how it lasts and then go from there--

One stick will be Klip 55/Big Ace crosses--not sure on tension of BA cross?
One stick will be Klip 55/PSGM 16g 58. From reviews I've read on PSGM--good durability and spin with little tension loss--we shall see.:)

Ambro,

How on earth are you achieving great durability with your Legend/BA hybrid? Do you have an 18x20 string pattern?

I tried 16g Legend/ 16g BA hybrid in my PS 90 and the BA sawed the Legend in 1.5hrs.

great:evil: That will suck if it is the case--oh well, maybe I should stay away from the BA crosses and only use multi or just syn gut crosses--back to square one:(

If I can get about 20hrs I will be pretty happy--

Kcraig, you can probably achieve those numbers with Armour Pro instead.
I tried 16g Armour Pro main and 17g BA. If I recall correctly, it lasted over 15hrs.

From my experience AP is approximately 10X more durable with BA crosses than Legend. The AP hybrid provided good all-court performance for me.

I see in your sig you are playing the Legend crossed w/ OG micro--how does that compare in terms of durability? What gauges and tensions are you using? I may use PSGD or Pro Supex Titan syn gut as a cross as well. Both good strings and will certainly help keep the $$ down.:)

I only have 5hrs on the 16g Legend/16g OG Micro hybrid strung at 52/56 lbs. Hence, I can't compare yet.

Well that's about 3x the Legend/BA so your doing much better:) How is that combo working out for you and what tensions are you playing? Thanks

I answered your tensions question before.
Combo is average in performance compared to other hybrids I tried. Playability has held consistent after the first three hours. However, I don't think this hybrid suits me.
I will move next to Armour Pro mains with syngut (may be OG Micro) crosses when the current combo breaks.

Thanks man--I totally missed your tensions in other post (52/56). I will most likely go a little higher-around 55/57. Thanks again.:)

It better be here today--I am stoked (as you might tell). I did get a chance to hit some last night and a buddy had a O3 Black Speedport strung with Tonic/Excel--talk about soft--good power and suprisingly nice spin and control. Will let you know once I can hit with it--

OK--strings came in today and dropped by my stringers to string up--will not have back till Saturday:evil: Am going with the following:

1. Legend 17 56/Supex Titan 16 58

2. Legend 17 56/BA 1.22 54--I debated on using the Cyberpower 1.25 as a cross--which do you think will work better and let me know if I should adjust tensions on either stick up or down-thanks:)

I have about 10 hrs on my Klip Leg 17g/Supex Titan 16g hybrid and still LOVE IT!! But I am starting to get some pretty good notching and fraying-not sure how much longer this will last. Therefore, can someone tell me appx how much longer does the 16G Legend lasts over the 17g as I am looking to move to 16g my next go around--thanks:)

I used Klip Leg. 18 ga. full gut @59# in a POG for over a month. Never did break. Felt stiff and moved around quite a bit. Playability wasn't as good as VS 17 IMHO.

as posted earlier, a full 16 job lasted 8 hours for me. maybe you will get longer. once i got some good notching in there it broke the next time out.

I'm trying to find out myself :) I went through 6 sets of 17g Legend and was getting about 8 sets out of them and I'm on my first set of 16g. 4 sets so far and they look pretty good in my K90. I also use 6 string savers on the 7th and 8th cross from the bottom, 12 in total none overlap.

Whatever you do don't try Pacific's [not-so] Tough Gut 17. I was consistently getting 3 sets out of them.

Thanks--I just ordered a set of 16g Legend and will give it a go. I am also going to try some string savers--If I can get 15hrs I will be pretty pleased--I got 12.5-13 hrs on the 17g mains this last go around, so I would figure the 16 gauge will be good for atleast 2+hrs more durability-atleast those are my thoughts. :)

Is the notching on the Legend or the Titan?

rasajadad, x-1 and psgm are multis.
Titan and og micro are synguts, which are not as soft and will notch legend mains. You will experience the same result with poly crosses and legend mains.

I added some stringsavers last night (Bab elastocross) to the fraying/notching areas (about 15 total I thnk) in my Leg 17g/BA setup--these babies are sweet!!! Played 3 hrs this morning in 98*temps and there was little to no string movement and no loss of feel-- a little tighter stringbed, but no biggie. Hoping w/ the 16g gut mains and stringsavers I should be able to accomplish my 15-18+hr goal!!:)
