knee pains

I just started having knee pains since the past 10 or so days. The first day they started I hadn't played tennis for 4 days or any activity then they were all of a sudden sore but not excessively sore. Then untill today they get sore one day like I can't even run, then the next they are fine and I am able to play tennis. Because of this I only played 3 times in the past 10 or so days. On the left knee the pain is on the left ouside of the knee cap and around the whole left side of the knee. Same spots of pain in the right knee. Then all of a sudden today there is pain on the inside side of my knees.

I only had a sore knee about 2 times this year but that was the right knee only but the pain only lasted a maximum 3 days. I am a little worried because I can't play tennis 100%. I have rested my knees for 5 days since I got the first pain.

Anyone know what this might be, also the knees are sore mostly when they are locked in the straight position then as soon as I bend them down a bit I feel pain. Could this be an injury of some sort? I was thinking maybe growing pains, but I don't think there is suck thing. im 16 btw.

thanks

It might be tendinitis. I have the same thing. Is there any squishy feeling spots on the lower part of your knees?

Hey SuperDuy,

I'll share my experience, not sure how aplicable is for you. I got for a while a pain similar spot left knee (I'm righty), I went with typical RICE 5/7 days, visited the doctor who told me to review my serve and forehand's technique.

Serving I use platform stance and found that I torque a lot that area, not jumping/pushing with both legs at the same time; in my forehand I trend to overuse and torque the same leg.

So it is a working in progress, just got my office after visiting the doctor, we are gonna run some images studies but it looks like everything is going well.

I get this when I need a new pair of shoes. Worn out street shoes can also cause pain on the court

Knees are too complex to make any kind of accurate diagnosis on a web site. You need to be examined by an orthopod who sees a lot of young athletes with knee problems.

Tennis involves incredible stress on the knees. There are going to be micro tears in ligaments and small micro fractures in knee cartilage.

The body does a wondrous job in laying down new protein fibers to repair these small micro tears. But playing day in and day out, there is not time for the protein fibers that are lain down to properly cross link and become strong. Those cross links are broken down playing the next day.

So this is the mechanism of "overuse" injuries that plague tennis players.

You are going to have to give the body time to properly repair the accumulated micro tears.

This will be tough for you. You don't think it wasn't tough for Rafa not to defend his Wimbledon title last year?

But if you want to win the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open next year, this may be the best time to take some time off and let those knees heal.

Nope not that. None of those.

Forgot to ask you your weight, surface you play, level and those data.

I play on hard courts(obiously bad), play about 4-5 times a week for 2 or more hours per day. Weight is 155 lbs, level is low 4.0.

Yes need to give them a rest, probably going to the doctor soon though. Probably from my awward knee bend in serve, if you havnt seen, then look at my video of serving from last week, that was the first day I had the pain .

Yeah, just get it checked out. It could be many things and a good doc will get you on the right track.

I tore my meniscus when I was 16, I just dealt with the pain until I tore it wide open and locked my knee...if I had checked it at the beginning of the pain instead of just resting it, life would have been much easier.
