Knotting polys

Some strings seem easier to knot than others.

I'm struggling a bit to tie off knots on poly strings- ultra cable, alu power rough, etc

How do we make sure we have pulled it tight and knotted it well. When I pull and try to tighten after trying the knot with OUT ( over under through) I still see gap and no matter how much I pull forward and backwards.

On another note, is there a use for starting clamps in crosses? I heard we can use it so that we didn't need a starting knot and can use tie off knots.

Sounds like you're tying a double half hitch. I use a Parnell for all tie off knots, pull the knot fairly tight then pull the tag up up snug. There is no need to have a really tight knot, just one than holds.

When using a starting clamp I first pull through the top four crosses so I always end up one ahead. I put the starting clamp on the outside of the frame on the top cross so there is a long enough tag end to reach my tensioner. Then I tension and clamp the second and third cross. Then tension the top cross and move the clamp on the second cross to the top, remove starting clamp, release tension, and tie off.

Parnell knot doesn't work with natural gut.
But if you don't want to used the Parnell for natural gut you could use the VS Starting knot. It's virtually the same knot.

EDIT: I wonder if anyone knows who named the "VS Starting Knot"? Could it have been Babolat?

Every knot I know how to tie starts with a half hitch. Are you telling me you have another way?
For gut I prefer 2 x half hitch, one after another. Have broken some strings with Parnell final tug, so not using it anymore.

Sorry for the thematic diversion.

Parnell works for me on gut and i use the cheap india gut.

Poly too.
The only String now I don't use the Parnell on is the top cross on ZX. I think it the starting clamp that messes up the string where the knot is and not the Parnell though. I use my iKnot for the top cross and Parnell for the bottom exclusively on the ZX anymore. Every tie off is Parnell.

Yeah i dont use starting clamps at all with zx and in general because they mess the string up. Always tie 4 parnells on all my string jobs.
