Winning doesn't make it okay, but I am willing to overlook poor behaviour (to an extent) if the player has otherwise made good contributions to the sport. No one "earns the right" to behave better or worse - that's completely ridiculous. Those who watched tennis prior to the 21st century know that Connors was angry long before he was successful. And McEnroe was McEnroe long before he was a champion. That didn't change when they won titles. So was Connors bad for the sport then became good for the sport? Nonsense. His personality made him good for the sport, just as Kyrgios' personality is good for the sport now. It's a kick in the balls to the fans who have only ever known this generation of players. When there's a new player on the block that can actually evoke emotions from fans whatever they may be, most will always go into anaphylactic shock as to how someone would dare disturb them from their day-dream. But Kyrgios isn't especially controversial or especially rude. He's nothing new at all. We just haven't seen him for a while.
Not accept. Overlook.
Tiger Woods would be a good example of what I'm talking about.
We'll have to agree to disagree on whether or not Kyrgios' personality, on its own, is good for the sport.
It does add interest, I'll give you that, but otherwise, not a fan.
