Kyrgios: tennis is 'biased' and 'ruined'

I think the point was that Murray audibly swears in almost every game he plays yet never gets called on it, and yet when NK does it he gets pulled up for every one.

I'm not really defending NK, but he has a point here. If he says one swear word and gets a violation, and other blokes swear and don't so much as get a warning, it's not fair.
Rafa got a code violation in Indian Wells for just saying 'puta' , a swear word in Spanish. Andy doesn't get called out for similar stuff, so wouldn't Andy be a better example if that was nick's point, but I think of the top 4 Rafa is the least friendly with him and Andy the most friendly , so he always stupidly brings up Rafa.

Firstly. I feel like that picture of Nick needs to be re-posted in this topic because it is hilarious.

Ok on topic: The difference is, other "big" players like Nadal dont have 10 year old tatrums like he does.

does anyone else think he looks like mr. bean???

What an ass.

Also, this was interesting: "Kyrgios becomes first Australian to reach Miami quarters since 2002." Hewitt seriously never got past the 4th round since 2002?

Some deeply rooted stuff with him. Those who expect him to "mature out of it" any time soon are going to be disappointed I think.

But despite Kyrgios' bad behavior he has that certain star quality and is dynamic to watch. If he can let his racket do the talking and win matches, I don't care much about his antics. We need some characters on the ATP. It's so sterile at the moment with all of the PR robots. You need some players who give no fu*cks and who can win.

Yeah, I don't see a problem in distinguishing between Kyrgios as a player and how he acts. We can like his game and hope that he performs well for the good of the game while still lamenting the fact that he too often behaves like a gnome. At least that's how I approach it.

I do wish that he'd turn it down a couple of notches though. Some controversy can be fun and create attention for the game, but by now the guy just seems somewhat dissocial.

I agree. Tennis is entertainment, and he plays his role of a five-year-old very well. In order to have good guys, you also need bad guys. If everyone acted like David Goffin we would have nothing to talk about.

Anyone think code violation should form part of official match statistics? Easy to look for if we need to.

Agreed. Saw much 'beautiful' tennis in IW but ditched Gasquet-Mahut's artistry to see some rock star electricity on stadium 4. Nick brings the excitement that's for sure. And the haters. This older, country clubbish lady next to me was calling him a 'peasant' and said 'he should not be allowed to play professional tennis'. It was nuts. All the while Nick is telling us he feels like sh*t, but not sh*tty enough to refrain from chatting up the women sitting courtside lol. Too bad he lost that one but it was by far the most entertaining match I saw.

I usually agree with you cc0508, but as for me and my house, no matter how "dynamic" one's game is, if that player is a Major D*uchebag, he deserves d*****bag treatment as well.

You are right. AtP needs characters, but just not his kind.

He does carry on too much. I don't mind personally and people really shouldn't have a strong attitude against him. At the end of the day athletes shouldn't really be used as role models as they are useless entertainers. But he is right that there are double standards and gamesmanship and I don't mind him speaking up about it. However if he whined a little less his comments would have more weight.

This is where I am with him as well. I'm well aware he could be a big star and that we need that for the tour right now, but it doesn't excuse the fact that he's an ass.hole. I've never understood lumping the 2 things together like we're letting him off for his bratty behaviour because he's "dynamic" and the tour needs it.

It's easy to separate the two.

Also, I'm tired of the whole "If star player X had done this you wouldn't bat an eyelash."

True that star players get preferential treatment. Happens in all sports though, and it's time for a new line now. That one is old and tired.

Why shouldn't Kyrgios be held to a lower standard? There's a reason repeat criminals get longer sentences.

Jesus christ I mean common logic would tell someone why a well behaved player wouldn't get the warnings that a problem-ridden one does, apparently Nick lacks that common logic.

Poor Nick - if only those nasty people stopped forcing him to play tennis then this wouldn't happen!
He wouldn't be forced to call the enslavers out.
I wish this jerk would disappear into obscurity.

Perhaps the point young Nicholas is trying to get across is that the "kingpins" dont get sentences at all

Whilst I appreciate kyrgios for entertainment and skill, his mutterings between the majority of points has become more frequent and its really affected my attitude towards him.

We'll just have to watch to see which direction he takes. We know what happens to Murray when he gets stressed too easily, it doesn't bring results.

I am so tired of this guy earning popularity or lets say getting attention with bad boy image. He doesnt deserve this kind of attention. Just not paying any attention to this guy is the best thing people can do. Then maybe he really work hard on his profession and think about life in general.

His mutterings that you are talking about is like the shrieking rampage and demeanor of Azarenka. Both have a good game but both are annoying as hell. It's so off putting that you just end up turning the TV off when they're playing

I remember watching him in the off season ITPL exhibition. Any time a camera was around, he had to make sure he got himself into the frame. He has a really desperate need to be the center of attention at all times. He acts like such a jerk on court to make sure he's the center of attention. And it works -- the cameras can't stay off him, waiting to see what he'll do next.

Nadal got warned for obscenity in IW, first time in his career....said to the chair he should have got a pass for never doing it until then...he didn't...Nick's an idiot, and paranoid

It is a bit bias. However nick needs to understand that all sports are bias toward their stars. Just the way it is.
