Let's play the game--what if the Big 3 were all born in 1981?

The real question is the following

Does Andy Roddick still reach the semi's of the 2007 Australian Open, and do we still get that legendary press conference?

Andy was actually in really good form, I've rewatched a few of his matches from that run e.g. against Safin, Ancic and Fish, he looked really good. He'd have a pretty good shot at making the SF and giving that press conference.

It would be a shame to lose that. I still mutter that line to myself on a bad day. The media did have a weird habit of expecting players crushed by Fed to somehow appreciate the artistic beauty of it all.

Great post OP. I read the first few years, didn't bother then after and the result finally said (18+6) > 6 or whatever and I'm happy :)

If he came in as the #2 seed in 2005 (like in reality) he might have to go through Blake and Agassi back to back and then take on Federer (after Ginepri). We're obviously playing it safe with our speculation by not varying things too much but the the tennis landscape would be hugely different. Impossible to predict how careers and mentalities would evolve.

Nadal has had numerous injury issues, does the mere 5 year differential in sports science prevent him from returning from injuries in the way that he has in the past?
That we will never know unfortunately. But Nadal is a fighter. He would find a way.

Once again you simply have to love the chutzpah of posters that can’t predict a tournament 2 months away but are fully confident they know, just know, what would happen if players could travel in time.

A 36 year old Jimmy Connors would probably have won the majority of games against Borg and McEnroe in their 30s. But would lose the majority of matches at their peak.

Federer has longevity as one of his greatest assets, but at their peak he was the weakest of the big 3. The stats prove it.

All of your posts are BS with no substance. No, you have proved nothing except forcing your biased opinion as fact.

At their respective peak years, Federer was the most dominant player of the big three. Yes, the numbers/stats to back up this claim.

Federer would lose practically all, if not ALL, of the slams he swept up during the weak era to a peak Nadal and Djokovic. And Federer would have lost the "aura" that saw his non-ATG opponents defeated before a ball was struck, so he wouldn't have been given the special draws, scheduling and surface replacement that he has benefitted from this season -so those slams probably go missing.

Overall, this scenario would be a disaster for Federer and his legacy.
Must have felt good while typing this (stupid) huh!! Now it would've been great if it were even 10% true!!
Looks like your life is ruined forever....
No matter how you slice it & dice it Federer will come out with atleast 19 if not more slams wherever & however you put it.....And I think he is not done it...

Live with it!!

The "Fed target" disappears because he probably wins zip if they all play at their peak against the rest of the weak era.

Why would Federer keep playing without any records to chase? He probably retires at 30 or 31, possibly without winning a single slam.

Do some Fed fanatics here actually realize how insulting it is to Federer to constantly claim he lost to Nadal basically only because he developed a "block"? Any true sportsman will accept a defeat knowing the opponent was better on the day, insinuating that it was (23 times at that!) because of some mental weakness is slander!

Do Fedhaters even to get tired of using Nadal as a weapon against Federer? Federer has 19 GS titles (evenly distributed), CGS, 302 weeks at no. 1 and 6 WTF titles no matter what Federer’s H2H is against Nadal. A true tennis fan would have accepted Federer as the GOAT a long time but continue to slander him. Nadal or any other player will never be the GOAT because greatness is not solely due to how many titles a player wins.

What does that have to do with my point? By the way, discussing who is goat is at best a fun discussion, says a lot that you think "a true" tennis fan should not do that and just accept it is Federer ;)

BS. The circular arguments about GOAT is not a “fun” discussion, it is simply a stall tactic used by the one’s who hope if they stall enough their fav will be the GOAT.

No goat discussion please, can be fun but not on this forum. You still did not adress my point. Would you not find it insulting if somebody suggests you lost a sporting contest not because you faced a great opponent on the day but because you are a mental midget?
