looking for something softer than alu power 17

hi all

i switched from rpm blast 17 to alu power 17 in my prostaff 97. i love the power, but the feel
could be better, as it seems pretty stiff, but hasnt given me any arm or wrist problems.
i found that i had to shorten my strokes a bit to get more control.
the rpm blast seems too soft now, which surprised me, as i have been using it for the past 5 years. i guess the rpm blast goes dead really fast, but since i string my own, i didnt really think about it.

is there something i should try that might be a slightly softer version of alu power 17 that i should consider, or should i just get use to the stiffness of the alu power

i am playing mainly 4.0 doubles, but will do singles against other seniors, so no more singles league play for me.

thanks for any comments

Leave alu power, the choice is HUGE. Im sure you will find something softer. Its expensive and imo there are a lot of better strings especially if you consider the price you have to pay for alu power. I was playing alu for a while..very stiff and boardy ;p now i play with signum pro tornado, cheap, better spin potential ( a lot imo), softer in feel (slightly) , very similar power, , grabs the ball better. Havent played cyclone yet but heard that its almost same as tornado. I will stick to tornado but my next try will be solinco hyper g supposed to have softer feel, more spin and a bit less power than alu. power is a very debatable subject ;p If you are confident and feel good with a setup, you automatically start to produce heavier, faster balls.

I don't think ALU Power comes in 17 gauge, unless you've got the Fluoro version.

Try Pro Supex Big Ace. My singles partner loves ALU Power so I've hit with that a bunch. Big Ace is more comfy but with more spin, (for me) than ALU Power. He has several rackets with ALU in them and seems to be stringing more often than me. Cyclone is nice also but for me Big Ace has more spin and keep tension longer. I'm smiling a lot more on court with my Aero + Big Ace combo.

Genesis typhoon. Diadem solstice power. Or try the softer versions of Alu power like Alu power soft or Alu power fluoro

Try Tourna Big Hitter Silver 17. It's a little softer, a little thinner, and it's a silver poly. It's been compared to ALU as a cheaper alternative a lot. It's inexpensive, it lasts longer but not as much as some of the newest polys, and its more comfortable but similar.

+1 on Tourna - great strings overall. I've mainly played Big Hitter Blue which on paper is slightly stiffer than Silver but it feels soft, very comfortable and slightly muted in my prestige 600's and play with a very good balance of power/spin/control and with a very predictable response.

If you want even more power and spin try either Black Zone or Big Hitter Black 7.

nice - great strings both of them. I've never played them side by side though, if you string both at identical tensions in identical frames pls report back

I am a big fan of Luxilon Alu Power so I like your idea to stick with it.
A couple of options:
For better control you could put a texture on the Alu Power strings using SpinGen pliers (spin-gen.com or TW).
For better snap back, power, and comfort, consider using Ashaway Monogut ZX as the cross string.

Surprised theres no love for Tecnifibre???

If you dont absolutely LOVE Luxilon, youre payin waaay too much for strings. Im testing Tecnifibre strings and I can tell you their polys are TOPNOTCH, Id recommend Razor Code and Red Code Wax as a similar alternative to Lux: soft polys, snapback, spin power grest comfort.... I dont like RPM anymore, feels too stiff, it seems you like soft polys too, like me. If you want something similar to RPM try Black Code, felt much more comfortable to me than RPM.

you are correct, its alu power 17 fluoro, suppost to be softer than regular alu power.
i played a usta match last night, and when i switched to the rpm blast racquet to get more power and feel, i got some more pace on my serve
but i couldnt hit a decent shot otherwise, even though i just strung it up, the rpm blast is coming out
i need two racquets, as i sweat a lot and the racquet can slip out of my hand, so i usually change racquets to make sure
i have a dry handled one.
when i get a 3rd racquet, i can play around with other strings,
to see if there is anything better than the alu power 17 fluoro.
thx
