If you could find one used, ($399 new) you couldn't do a lot better than an Alpha Pioneer DC Plus...fixed clamps, 6 pt. mount, linear gripper (gamma lacks this), clutch and ratchet...

The previous version, I believe, was the Alpha Pioneer DC, and there was also an Alpha Pioneer FL, but I'm not sure if that one was 6pt.

it'll be tough finding one, with fixed clamps for that prize range, if possible, save up a bit more and you'll have a bit more choices. But if you can find a Alpha Pioneer DC for that price, you one lucky dude.

you could buy a SP swing upgraded into a 6 point mounting system. its $199 for a 2 point, but only $50 more to get a 6 point. it also comes with a reel of syn gut. just go to silent partner's website.

The Swing comes standard with that "6-point" mounting system. The $50 upgrade is really for the e-stringer, which comes standard with a 2-point, but the Swing already has it. But don't get too excited -- it's not what most people think of when they talk about 6-point mounting systems like on the Gamma above. It just has a couple of extra contact points at the top and bottom, not the usual outside braces you see on true 6-points. It's a bit more stable than a 2-point, but misleading to compare it to a real 6-point. Good machine, though.

I believe "tennis-skater" is selling a Mutual Power Hercules 610 in the swap meet section. I think it might be right in your price range.

I have one and it works flawlessly. Fixed clamps, linear gripper, 6-point mounting, and a smooth (nont ratcheting) one-way clutch.

I would never buy a floating clamp setup. It's just not worth the hassle.

If your budget is really $200, I recommend the Gamma X-2. I know, you said you want 6 pt mounting. But really, I don't see what the problem is with 2 pt mounting. There is absolutely nothing unstable or damaging about the 2 pt mounting in the Gamma X-2. With shipping should be about $160 in the U.S. Now you've freed up $40 for some other gear. Some over grips, more Thorlo socks, whatever, to go with your new equipment, which really is a savings in itself. Mine will be paid for after about 6 or 7 strings jobs.

Gamma X-2 rocks!
