Low shoes and good cushioning

Hello guys,

Can you please suggest me a few good tennis shoes?

I need to avoid ankle injury with thick soles. Something as thick (sole) as NB 653 is great.
But I also need good gel (cushioning) – NB 653 are bad in that area. Lately I have been playing with ASICS running shoes. Although I have ruined them in three weeks my legs do not ache anymore due to better cushioning.

So what is the best shoe for

Close to ground (thinner sole)
Better cushioning
Reasonable durability
And off course toe support
Slightly wider feet – between D and E

Thank you,

Nike Breathe Free II is excellent in this regard.

I also thought the cushioning on the KSwiss Defier was excellent - though the shoe is a little higher off the ground and has softer rubber, leading to 'potenial' more ankle role than the BF II, but not bad. Great fit.

I'm a bit wider than average (D-E) and find both of these shoes excellent in that department as well.

Take care

You want ultimate cushioning? Try the Reebok Pump Triple Break (now on sale) with a pair of Thorlo level 2 or 3 socks. Your feet won't even feel like they had been to the court when you're done.

I've played in all the shoes that have been suggested so far, and the Reeboks are far superior in the cushioning department. Plus, they have a little more room in the toe box.

Be careful with running shoes. They're made for running straight forward, and don't have any support for lateral movement, which can result in ankle rolling.

Well, the Pump Triple Breaks won't be as "low-to-the-ground" as the Breathes, Vapors, or Barricades, but I recommended them because they seem to be a bit lower feeling than the Match Day Pumps or some of the other Reebok models. IMO the Triple Breaks are about as good a shoe as Reebok has made; they're definitely worth a try.

Yonex has great cushioning

I agree.

I’ve worn Nike Breathe Free II, Breathe Cages, Adidas Barricade IV, and Yonex 304 (Hewitt wears Yonex 305). The Yonex had the best cushioning, by a significant margin – my feet did not ache, and they were good for wide feet.

Have you seen the latest review of Tennis Magazine of the Yonex 305 ?? It saids, cushioning for 305 is nothing more than glorified padding. it gave Nike Cage breath free significantly better cushioning score.

K-Swiss Defier; normally, I have to buy 2E shoes, but not with this K-Swiss shoe - good weight, stability and comfort.
