Luxilon 4G vs 4GS

Question for the TW staff. How different does Luxilon 4G and 4G S play in the same frame at the same tension? I demo'd a Blade 98 18x20 from TW which had a sticker on it that said Luxion 4G at 50 lbs. Everything felt great so I bought two frames and had them strung up with what I thought was 4G.

They played terrible, very dead with no power and the racquet felt heavy and sluggish. I found out that the string put in was 4G S not 4G. I'm wondering how much different the two strings play and if the big variance is down to the string or frame variances.

FWIW the demo frame was 323 strung and mine were within 2 grams of the demo.

4gs is a quite thick poly. really designed to be used in the very open pattern spin oriented frames. 4g has 3 variations 16l, 16, and 15(s) not much difference between the 3, just gauge. In the blade you want to use 16l or 16.

Try 16l, the thinnest most popular gauge, and see if it feel more like your demo. if it doesnt its probably the honeymoon effect as a difference of 2 grams unless the balance is wildly off won't change much to the feel of the frames.

Thanks, I'm guessing it's the strings. It made the two blades I have play very poorly. I'll order a pack of 16L 4G after I wear out my usual cyclone tour 16 and see if I can bring the magic back.

Question for the TW staff. Do you know which gauge 4G you put in the 2015 Blade 98 18x20 demos that are strung at 50 lbs?

CosmosMpower,

It is strung with 16L gauge.

Thanks,

Thank you! I haven't found any reviews of the 4G S, do you think it will play a lot different than the 16L 4G strung in your demo? Any idea how often the demos are restrung? The sticker said 50 lbs but if it had not been restrung for a while prior to me demo'ing I may drop the tension a few pounds to recreate the same feel.

CosmosMPower,

The only difference is that 4G S is a thicker gauge (15) of 4G. Luxilon added the S to help accommodate super open string pattern racquets. The demo restrings vary racquet per racquet. However, I would recommend dropping the tension a couple pounds for a similar feel.

Thanks,
Brittany, TW
