Medvedev is the champion we need

Makes you question what the system has against Med. We really need to replace chair umpires with robots. People can't be trusted.

"Yes Medvedev talked during the point but Bublik hit the ball before Medvedev said sorry and by rule that is not classed as a hinderance!"

He has a good point.
If Med had talked anytime before Bublik had hit the ball back, that certainly could be called a hindrance.
But after Bublik hit the ball, there was nothing that Med could say given the ball's trajectory, to hinder Bublik.

After Bublik hit the ball, he was dead in the water. Med either smashes the ball in the stands, dinks it over the net, or misses it.
Bublik was NEVER going to touch the ball again during that point.

not only that, Bublik also LOLed at the umpire and said something to Medvedev in Russian (prob'ly: forget it, let's finish the game and move on)
she really made a mistake and they both laughed at that. it's not a "bizarre" behavior. that's how any player should react.

It wasn't a hindrance, the opponent was on the ground and had no ball to hit to be hindered.

Med's only mistake was not apologizing after the point was over completely.
I understand.
But you do not talk until the point is over. If you do, you lose it. There are no exceptions for instances where the opponent is flat on their arse.

Fair enough, I'd have to look for the rule to read it. Always thought it was more of a judgement call than a 1:1 rule.

No you don't understand. Then you HAVE TO give warning/penalty for time Violation every time player goes over the clock.

How many times that happens? Let alone others, how many times did this umpire went by the book in that case???

I apologise, but I do not speak triple question mark.
You seem to have watched the match, though. I went to sleep after the first set.
Did Bublik keep the point once he gained knowledge of what had actually happened?

Medvedev doesn't and won't do well in big moments and tournaments, because of his very unorthodox strokes.

The orthodox view (pardon the pun) is that, no matter the sport (golf, baseball, basketball, whatever), unorthodox techniques are unsustainable and will break down at critical moments. Medvedev's history has only confirmed that: often brilliant, but...

It is a travesty that an umpire can call this a hindrance but yet they never call Sonego's or Sabalenka's delayed and prolonged grunts a hindrance!

Lets talk after any of these pathetic next genners start winning BO5 slams...otherwise this is charity/playing for scraps because Djokodal don't even care about Masters anymore.

Tremendous get from Bublik. God he’s involved in a lot of strange points and matches.

Medvedev is Kyrgios done right

Sig-worthy straight talk right there.

It’d be awesome if Med put his psychotic focus to becoming a more effective and efficient attacking player. He, Nick and Zod are the only ones who definitely have what it takes in skill and athletic terms. The mental is the big if.

It was a pretty dumb call, don't get the umpire's logic here.
What's especially dumb is if someone in the same situation let out even a fairly short grunt hitting that overhead, they would likely still be making noise by the time Bublik hit the ball, but I guarantee you they wouldn't be called for a hindrance. But Med saying sorry after Bublik's already struck the ball is apparently out of bounds.

Did he say sorry before the ball hit Bublik or after
It sounds like its after, and ball hitting him is when the point is over
Don't think ref realized the ball bounced off Bublik back?

Well can we really call it "taking over" at this point?
Well it’s there time to shine now. Better get used to it. I hope Medvedev wins a slam soon as he’s one of my favourites from next gen. I don’t mind Zverev either. Ideally I want Djokovic to win more but one more will do to get him on 21 then if next gen take over I’ll be cool with that haha

Bublik thought it was a ridiculous call.
I don't even think he heard Med say anything.
Bublik was surprised when the umpire gave him the point.
He didn't understand why !!!
In the middle of the incident he asked the umpire for the score and was ready to replay the point
instead of get the point!

First of all the ball did not hit Bublik, it hit his racket.

Second of all Med's shot was so fast and Bublik's reaction so fast, that Med didn't have time
to apologize BEFORE Bublik hit the ball back!

The ref knew the ball hit Bublik's racket! The point would have been over immediately had
it hit Bublik's back!

Didn´t anyone realized that the ball hit Bublik´s body, not his racquet? That´s why the situation is hillarious.

I just watched the replay in slow motion. The ball definitely hit Bub's racket. It was a freak shot, to be able to hit the ball and have it go over the net!

Thank you. That is what a sportsman acts like.
A little bi*ch cries to the umpire that it is their point, their point.
