The women's Australian Open is definitely the better event the emergence of a new generation is finally happening. Sloane Stephens, Laura Robson, Madison Keys, and Jamie Hampton helped make this grand slam enjoyable. It is nice to see the veterans battle the new girls on the block.
It is not surprising, the woman hating and the misogyny on this message board. I guess for some men they feel they need to attack women's tennis in order to feel better about themselves.
As a gay man, I do like men's tennis but that doesn't mean that I feel the need to attack women's tennis to feel better about myself like some men on this board do.
However, the men's Australian Open event is boring as usual, the young male players did nothing to challenge the champions. Once again, the top four seeds reached the semifinals which is boring and predictable. There is no excitment seeing the same people win slams over and over again again. Also, the personalities on the men's tour is lacking.Federer and Murray are bland and boring, they follow the script and they both don't have much personality.
Meanwhile, on the women's side the top female players are more honest, about how they are feeling, about how the feel and think about the competition. I like the WTA Tour because on the women's side you can actually see the real personalities of the top female players while the top male players hide behind a mask most of the time.
Meanwhile, on the women's side Sloane Stephens upset Serena Williams, Laura Robson beat Petra Kvitova. The women's event provided the big surprising upsets.
Also, Jo Tsonga's misogynist comments about women being emotional is interesting from a player that has choked several big matches in his career most specifically the French Open quarterfinals last year when he had match points.
