Men's Australian Open boring but women's event very exciting.

The women's Australian Open is definitely the better event the emergence of a new generation is finally happening. Sloane Stephens, Laura Robson, Madison Keys, and Jamie Hampton helped make this grand slam enjoyable. It is nice to see the veterans battle the new girls on the block.

It is not surprising, the woman hating and the misogyny on this message board. I guess for some men they feel they need to attack women's tennis in order to feel better about themselves.

As a gay man, I do like men's tennis but that doesn't mean that I feel the need to attack women's tennis to feel better about myself like some men on this board do.

However, the men's Australian Open event is boring as usual, the young male players did nothing to challenge the champions. Once again, the top four seeds reached the semifinals which is boring and predictable. There is no excitment seeing the same people win slams over and over again again. Also, the personalities on the men's tour is lacking.Federer and Murray are bland and boring, they follow the script and they both don't have much personality.

Meanwhile, on the women's side the top female players are more honest, about how they are feeling, about how the feel and think about the competition. I like the WTA Tour because on the women's side you can actually see the real personalities of the top female players while the top male players hide behind a mask most of the time.

Meanwhile, on the women's side Sloane Stephens upset Serena Williams, Laura Robson beat Petra Kvitova. The women's event provided the big surprising upsets.

Also, Jo Tsonga's misogynist comments about women being emotional is interesting from a player that has choked several big matches in his career most specifically the French Open quarterfinals last year when he had match points.

Stephens upset a hobbled Serena Williams. Kvitova has been consistently mediocre, especially on hard courts. Neither result was a huge surprise.
The perception that women are emotional will remain unchanged until the women stop having huge meltdowns left and right.

The truth is, on the men's side the top four have been very consistent throughout the years, while the there are always "surprises" on the women's side. I prefer the consistency. But whatever floats your boat, I guess.

I dont find bagles entertaining or upsets if its low quality, however Serena williams getting beat is always entertaining. Mens has been disapointing to be honest no 5 set epics and too many darn injurys.

To each hos own, but to me any tourney with Fed playing well is exciting. Add to that impressive performances from Tomic, Wawrinka, and Tsonga and I'm good. Main regret was Dimitrov not even making it past the first round.

I have watched Kuznetsova, Azerenko, Stephens, & some others and they have been entertaining and a high quality of tennnis was being played , Tired of watching the top 3 men...new blood needed. but from where I so not know.

I like to watch the occasional women's match just to mix it up. But the Men are just on another level in terms of "did he just make that" etc. I never really find myself saying "wow" during a Women's match.

Radwanska v Li was good. Surprisingly no vocals. Just good tennis without any silly games/MTOs etc.

Other than that... cool story, bro.

I don't think Tsogna's comment indicates that he has a hatred or dislike of women. He just shared his opinion or maybe it was a failed attempt at humor. Maybe some of the French aren't as politically correct and speak their minds freely.

And you say that the dudes wear masks but Tsonga didn't edit himself and he's criticized for it.

That softball is just begging to be smashed out of the park, but I'll leave it alone. Anyway, no, aside from a little cheating, the womens has been the same old stuff(I didn't say tennis).

Don't you feel the following matches did challenge the top seeds:
- Wawrinka vs. Djokovic (people will discuss this one for years to come).
- Tsonga vs. Federer (was closer than the scoreline suggests and, more importantly, displayed some of the best all court tennis in this tournament, something we didn't see in the WTA side)

Also, in terms of hype and excitement Federer vs. Tomic was interesting, especially considering the attendant Aussie media drama.

Other drama:
- Chardy's run, knocking out Del Potro and progressing deep into the tournament with an aggressive tennis game.
- Nishikori battling through knee trouble against Ferrer.
- Almagro vs. Ferrer provided us with the choke of the year and ups and downs to rival any WTA match with some excellent tennis in the first two sets and a lot of history between the players.

Overall, it is an improvement over the previous years on the ATP side of the aussie open, but apart from the drama around stephens / serena, there was little memorable tennis excellence in the WTA section of this slam, apart from Li Na vs. Sharapova and Azarenka's latest match. So three matches. Hopefully the final will be good to make up for it.

with rafa missing, people might as well watch womens tennis. the men's tour is dead. plus the butt picks could be more entertaining on the wta

I watched more women's tennis than I have in years these last two weeks, but if Azarenka wins it will be all for nought. Li Na would be such a great champion.

The men's side has been somewhat boring but there have been a few good matches. Federer vs Murray should be amazing and I really nope Novak does not win.

I like how most people who disagree to the OP only answer with dismissive bad joke, because it is enough in a misogynic board like this one.

women's tennis just lacks variety - they all play the same way, whereas the men's matches are more interesting in that you often get two very contrasting players matching up - makes it easier to watch. Take this Federer - Murray match as a prime example.

I am a male. I enjoy watching ATP much more than WTA. The quality of the matches are just higher in general. Occasionally, there are some great WTA matches worth watching but in general, ATP has more power, more variety and more unbelievable shots.

Hopr Li Na wins...she's the only one with personality and a sense of humour in the WTA. Go, Na!
