Mods that made the Prince Textreme Tour 95 a beast

Stock the frame does everything well but nothing great. After a few series of mods I find that the frame does everything exceptionally exceptionally well. In all these areas I now rate it a 10 out of 10: Power, stability, plow, feel, control, maneuverability and gobs of deep effortless heavy spin.

Spec wise the frame was already pretty solid with a healthy static weight but lacked a little bit of punch due to it's light swing weight (320). Just a wee bit of additional stability in the head would not be a bad thing either.

I was missing the easy plow and power of my RF97 but not missing the maneuverability issues when fatigue set in.

With the mods below I find that the Prince Textreme Tour 95 is insanely insanely maneuverable at 12.8 ounces (unreal), with power that now rivals the RF97; but that is tons easier to swing and maneuver.

If you have the Prince Textreme Tour 95 and hate it, try the mods below or something similar before dumping it.

Some have mentioned a few other frames (PC95, Ai98 and others) in the class of the Prince Textreme Tour 95 as having more power and larger sweet spots, but i love the thin beam traditional feel of the Prince. With minor mods you can have the thin beam traditional feel with gobs of spin, power and stability.

My mods:

Wilson Leather Grip
2 Overgrips (1 Head XtremeSoft Overgrip and 1 Wilson Pro Comfort Overgrip)
1 gram of lead at 12, 3 and 9

Final weight: 362 grams (12.8 ounces)
Strung with Volkl Cyclone Tour 16 at 50lbs

I have a similar lead set up on my Prince Textreme Tours, but depending on the racquet, they may vary by a couple grams of lead. However, I use TW leather, one overgrip, and gut/poly.

I was surprised at how such a small amount of lead made such a big difference.

I've currently got my TXT 95's evenly balanced to 9pts, grip is a large L3 and as I like large overlap in my overgrips. Got 6g of lead at 3 and 9. Not entirely sure what the weight/swingweight is.

EDIT: 355g, 344SW

Interesting. I need to restring my TT95 and then I'll think about modding it. Not gonna go with Cycline or probably any other poly though.

What are you going with? I find this racquet pretty string sensitive. So far, I've found it plays best with Cyclone Tour at 50-52 lbs. Plenty of pop and spin and easier on the arm than Cyclone.

Probably some Gosen OG around 52 and see how it goes. I'm moving away from all polys for a while.

I usually don't mod my sticks very much but now i'm sold. It can really transform a frame as opposed to buying and buying sticks. Almost better to get a frame that has overall sound characteristics without really lacking in any areas and then tailoring it to specs that suit you best. I guess that's why Angell is so popular. I'd imagine with that much lead in the head and your high sw you can really destroy the ball. Kinda makes low powered comments about a this frame mute as modding is so easy with such huge results.

You just described the PS 6.0 85.

The TT95 is awesome, and if I weren't playing with the Angell I'd certainly still be using it. I agree it plays well stock but really shines with a bit of customization. I had 5g lead at 3+9 and 3.5g in the buttcap. Insanely solid and stable, and super forgiving with all that lead, but still easy to maneuver. Pinpoint accuracy and easy on the arm.

RF97 although less maneuverable does have a much much bigger sweetspot. It's massive - the entire racquet face. I see why some have both the TT95 and the RF97 in their collection.

I just demoed the RF97 for the second time and looove it. But I haven't played a 3 hour match with it yet. I also demoed the TT95, and I found it very light through the air. I usually customize my racquets, but was just getting tired of tinkering around. I think the RF97 suits me best stock alone. But I really enjoyed the plush feel of the TT95.

It's a hard choice.

After playing with the TT95 for a while now, that pinpoints its only real flaw. Compared to other 95 frames, it has a decent sweet zone, but compared to other, bigger frames - even player's frame - it is smaller, and more importantly, power outside the sweetzone falls more rapidly than on its bigger counterparts.

After alternating match play with the TT95 and (primarily) the TT100T (modded), I have to acknowledge that the effect of a bigger sweetzone and a more forgiving ("powerful") stringbed far outweighs - for me - the positive effect of control and plow, esp. on my forehands.

So, I'll be experimenting with lower tension polys, and prob. looking into the RF97A and perhaps the Blade 98 16x19, the PS97S and ... I dunno yet :)

I traded for one and have used it only once and really liked it. I decided that the swingweight felt way too low so I added 4g of lead at 3 and 9. I then put it on a scale and was surprised that it was coming out at 347g or 12.2oz. So I took the trap door off of the butt cap and realized that silicone had been put in the handle. After doing some quick math I believe the previous owner added around 5g of silicone, so my 4g in the hoop was actually a decent counter balance and will hopefully get the swingweight to where it needs to be. Also hoping that it improves the plow through to something close to the response 97. I should be playing today so hopefully I can come back with good news. Hopefully I won't have to add any more weight, I am coming from 11oz frames and jumping into these heavy ones.

I have to disagree. I was surprised how small the sweetspot felt on this one. Compared to different iterations of six one's and Dunlop 200 series i have tried as well as other 95 rackets. There is not enough mass up in the head IMO, would have liked a tad more HH balance but without more weight (or maybe even less weight) :)

Ime, the 6.1 95 16x18 has a huuuge sweetzone, and a bit more weight and SW stock. If you compare the TT95's sweetzone, to let's say the IG Prestige Pro, again, ime, the TT95 > IGPP. Anyways, the're both small compared to the 6.1 95 and even more so, the RF97.

I did customize both with quite a bit of lead at 12, at one time, and despite getting great plow, it didn't do much to the sweet zone, at least as far as I could register. I've also tried lead at 6 and 9 w/o noticing much with reg. to shots outside the sweet zone (contrary to the belief that lead at 6+9 augments the sweet zone)

I'll try out mid 40s on a thinner spin and powerfriendly (soft) poly to see if that betters ballpocketing and power, esp. outside the sweet zone.

I just brought mine up to 343 grams, 6 points headlight (strung with Prince Original Synthetic gut 16 at 48/47. It was 5 grams under spec. I added lead the whole length of the bumper guard on both sides of the grommets (under the bumperguard), and filled half the handle with silicone (both chambers). I am going to go hit with it now...but bouncing it off my hand feels great!

Now it feels better than any prestige :) Super soft, buttery feel, want to stick a poly in it just to get a little more feedback. The silicone dampened it....a lot!

I can recommend Head Sonic Pro Edge if you haven't tried it. Certainly made the stringbed in my MG radical mp more forgiving. Would have liked to try it out in the TT95 as well!

Thanks, I'll check that out if I get the chance :)

I just got my TT95 from the big auction site. It just so happened that it came with a Prince calfskin grip and is strung with Solinco Tour Bite 19. With a dampener and overgrip it comes in at a stout (for me) 365g and 12 points headlight. The playing weight of my 100P is 332g at 8 points HL. Amazingly, the TT95 feels every bit as maneuverable in singles play with doubles still t.b.d.

I like the extra HL balance enough that I am going to try adding a leather grip to the 100P. Just 7 short months ago I was playing a ~305g TT100T that I modified up to 320g, and now feel at home with 332g and 365g frames. I never expected to be playing a frame that is approaching 13 oz and feeling no fatigue from it.
