Murray and Under Armor

Does anyone know what is going on with Murray and his UA clothes? What is taking UA so long to create actual tennis clothes. The shirts he wears now just look like UA workout clothes. And the shorts are just workout shorts with pockets. Hard to believe they would win the bidding war, then not actually create clothes that look like 2016 tennis designs.

I'm sure Murray doesn't care - as long as the payments are received on time and for the agreed upon amount.

This is kinda similar with Uniqlo - they're just using Nole and Kei to market their non-tennis clothes. However, Uniqlo does have a VERY limited set of tennis clothing like what's worn by Nishikori and Djokovic.

Uniqlo releases new set of tennis clothes styles at least 4 times per year. And they are making good $$$ on those. And Novak and Kei are not the only (popular) athletes they sponsor

Agreed. The Uniqlo stuff is very tennis specific - even the pocketing on the shorts is terry-lined and is roughly what Djokovic and Nish wear except for some pro-only customizations. Where I am it is widely available, too.

Yeah I don't think UA are that serious or keen on making a tennis specific line of clothes for Murray....may evolve over time but for the minute he is just a walking billboard for them.

Is making Andy a UA billboard designed to create demand for their gear in the U.K.? If not, who is the target audience? Are they trying to get tennis people to buy Under Armour when buying non-tennis related stuff? I can't imagine people taking buying cues from Andy Murray's endorsement unless they were into tennis in the UK?

All about increasing brand awareness and people gaining familiarity with UA. If people relate with Murray in a positive light then seeing the UA everytime they see his image will create reinforcement in their mind and such positive reinforcement (or negative) has been proven to influence buying habits.
As a top player Murray features prominently in the media and promotional material, therefore UA will get solid exposure for their investment and a much larger % of the population buy non-tennis related "Activewear" as opposed to actual tennis gear.

Admittedly I don't frequent Uniqlo shops often. The last time I went to their flagship store (12 floors!), I only saw 2 styles - one from Kei, and another from Djokovic. In general, their style is on the plain, functional, minimalist side.

UA doesn't give a damn about tennis. All they want, by sponsoring Brown, Murray and his brother, is getting the UA name famous out of the USA.

They only care to make money off of Steph Curry's shoes. They sell out. I am pretty sure if they make tennis stuff that UA will not sell as much. You see what Murray is wearing. There clothes are not exciting.

I don't mind those clothes, at least they're not as flashy as the latest offers from Yonex or Nike, plus they're really light and hi quality. Which one do you prefer? I certainly do like the all black look UA gives Murray more than the popsicle look below.

There seems to be a lot more visibility for UA now in the uk , and thir products are finding their way into most sports shops. Albeit not tennis specific gear. I have a fair bit of their running gear and tops which i wear for tennis, which are significantly cheaper than normal tennis prices.

Murray doesn't exactly wear the most vibrant colours and designs anyway. I recall him wearing an orange Adidas top about 5 years ago, but since then it's either black, grey or navy, except for his Wimby whites.

So regardless of the brand, I think his outfits would always be quite dark and non-descript.

Maybe that swayed him to UA. He wanted to avoid the brighter offerings from Adidas and Nike. It does seem to be that case at a lot of the majors, where you see different players wearing the same Adidas or Nike outfits as each other.

Agree 100%.

The others might be right that they won't make tennis lines - but I wonder why they bothered making Murray sign for the shoes - they're tougher to make than the clothes (not a lot of R&D in shirts/shorts).

And to those saying Murray doesn't like bright colors - you can still make a decent looking shirt in black/white/dark blue - not expecting anything incredible; just a little styling.

Well I'm sure Murray put "some" effort on the line that he's wearing. I remember I saw him advertised wearing a royal blue with black shirt and black shorts. Once I saw it, I liked it. It wasn't too flashy or dull. Somehow he never wore it. I believe it was for the AO. Anyways, UA isn't big on tennis clothing, the brand itself is more towards training/workout gear. Tbh the shirts are quite comfortable & has a mesh material on the back which keeps you cool. I own like 4 now, plus much cheeper then any Nike or Adidas crews. I'm sure his "brand" of clothing will come out soon with other colors in tack when the shoes comes out which who knows when..smh

My problem is you can't even purchase half the shirts he wears. I liked the white and black shirt he wore at the Australian Open but it wasn't available for purchase. I spoke to Under Armour on Twitter to complain and they were apologetic but promised big thing from the Murray line in the very near future. I won't hold my breath.

I would be happy with Tom's wife modeling tennis stuff or any stuff - Giselle B...., better for the eyes! But I don't think she would do it; she strictly high fashion ultra designer clothing!

I think she's too thin for tennis clothes; the current TW model on the tv commercials is better suited for it.

Agreed. Sloane has had some great outfits. And they haven't played it safe. Some of the colours she's worn were pretty out-there, but most of them have looked great.
