Murray wins Queens wooden spoon (was the 2x defending champ)

Fed got a thread for only kind of winning a wooden spoon in Stuttgart but Murray won it outright in Queens so here's a thread.

Murray >> Thompson >> Querrey >> Muller >> Cilic

To make things more embarrassing, he was the top seed and 2x defending champ.

Fed won it in Stuttgart but it gets confusing cause he had a 1R bye so it's muddled cause Haas won his 1R and 2R which kind of gives two wooden spoons, makes it hard. Do you disregard the 1R then? Doesn't really fit.

Herbert/Fed >> Haas >> Zverev >> Lopez

So Bye saved Fed from winning wooden spoon . If we discuss such things as losing to the player who lost his next match and so on.. to the eventual champ I don't see the difference between Fed and Murray here.
The more shocking thing is that Andy lost in R1 as two times defending champ

There is no ambiguity at all! Federer is the only one in Stuttgart who lost to a guy who lost to a guy etc etc.

Haas' first round opponent, PH Herbert, merely lost to a guy, who beat a guy, then lost to a guy who lost to a guy etc etc.

Obviously Murray's is more special because it was a longer daisy chain and he was defending champ and world no 1 etc.

And neither holds a candle to Nadal's glorious AO wooden spoon!!

It meaningless to me anyway. Its forum game
I said Murray loss is quite shocking even if we know how poor his form is in 2017, he was defending champ on his home soil, on surface that suits his game so well

A Wooden Spoon to go with his Australian Open Runner's up plates, he could have a feast now.

In all seriousness he has been as thick as two short planks this season, I want to see him do well and it pains me seeing him with zero passion, zero commitment and zero hunger.

Can't believe both Murray and Federer won a wooden spoon on grass. I didn't even know it, before I read this thread.

But I guess, in both occasions we could blame Deliciano the Troll.

I know he's been unusually up and down this season but he did play a tough 3 setter against Djokovic in the final of Doha, saved 7 match points against Kohlschreiber on his way to winning Dubai and took Stanimal to 5 sets in the semis of Roland Garros so I think that's a bit over the top, don't you? o_O

I think we can safely say that he is an all or nothing guy at Queen's. If it's not all, then it's nothing. I don't think there has ever been an in-between.

Thankfully, he usually goes for all! :)

But Murray is a man for the big stage. He can't be bothered with paltry 500 titles.

How can you completely disregard the 1R though? That's where it gets muddled. There's an entire round which has been left off for the wooden spoon cause of the bye.

Agreed. In this case it is 'Bye' who won the wooden spoon, as he lost to Federer first round, who lost to Haas, who lost to Zverev?, who lost to...

Actually he lost in the last 2 he has played: to Thiem in the semis of Barcelona and to Thompson in the 1st round of Queen's.
I forgot about Barcelona but I was talking about the 500s he'd played before this year's Queens, not including it.

Are you talking just about last year or overall? He won all 3 of the 500 events he entered last year (Queen's, Beijing and Vienna). Overall in his career, he has lost at various times at Queen's (usually in even years) and at events like Dubai, Rotterdam, Barcelona, Beijing, Tokyo and Valencia.

I was talking about Queens, Beijing and Vienna in 2016 and this year's Dubai. Lol, I wish I'd not said anything now.
