It hit me like a flash in the shower yesterday. Murray's spectacular DC performance just assured Rog's 18th slam. Fed is looking spectacular per usual for the last two years, and this time he won't have the added pressure of facing Nole in a final. With Federer's slam final record careering towards .500, the added pressure of that and just final's pressure in general, which Rog handles so-so, would have been too much. But now, with Muz having slipped in at #2 at the last hour of 2015, Fed gets to face Nole in the semis.
Game over. No pressure at all. Rog loses, big deal. We'll hear the same bromides about "great start to season," "feeling great, playing well," "very close," and he'll move right on. Everyone will write about how fabulous he's playing at 34 etc, etc. So no pressure. He'll take this semi and then demolish the lower seed in the finals because that's what he does to lower seeds in ways that Nadal could only ever dream of.
