When i run my ankle has a ridiculously excruitating pain that starts at the top lateral side of my ankle up to the middle of my leg. Around the middle of my run it goes to the point of a numb pain, with more chronic than acute waves of pain. When I finish my run and walk, I'm in a whole new world of pain. I believe during my 2008 xc season I sprained it but have had only minor flare ups until recently. When I play tennis I have no pain though. Any prescriptions?

It's impossible to make any definitve diagnosis over the internet.
You are going to have to be examined by a doctor, preferably an orthopod with an interest in sports medicine.

All that being said, most types of pain that involve running, also would bother you in tennis.
The fact that it seems that only continuos running, and not the stops and starts in tennis, at least raises the possibility that there is a restriction in blood flow to this area. If you are older, and have smoked, this might be due to a blocked artery. If you are younger, this could be a compartment syndrome.

But again, this could be something else entirely, and getting well would depend on an accurate diagnosis and specific treatment.

sounds a bit like shin splints, since you only have it whilst running. But i would see a doctor anyway

doctor asap. you can do permanent damage to nerves aggravating a pinched nerve or other nerve injuries. Just heard a story about someone who cannot feel their legs at all due to permanent nerve damage. Didn't sound very pleasant. Lots of stumbling and peeing issues.

Seriously go see a doctor preferrably sports medicine doctor.

some docotors might dismiss it without much thought and exams.

What you are doing is kind of like this..

"I have been coughing for a couple of weeks, and my chest hurts when I inhale. My nose is always stuffed and mucus is pouring out... Any diagonsis?"
