Mystery quad injury

Has anyone had a quad injury that wasn't detected on an ultrasound? I'm pretty sure I tore my quad -not too badly, but badly enough where after running or jumping or doing certain movement it hurts BADLY, and is more of what I call a "bracing" pain, sort of like a clenching, horrible pain that I've only ever felt after tearing my calf muscle.

When the quad injury happened, I took 2 weeks off, thought I was better, played again and after playing 3 times there it was again. I don't really have pain walking, and it seems to get better quickly but then emerges with certain movements or fast running. It's basically not bad enough to keep me from trying to play, but then bad enough to stop me when I'm playing and take me out for a few days until I convince myself I'm fine. I ended up doing an ultrasound which didn't show anything, which then reinforces my idea that I'm fine...until I play and it happens again and I can barely move. We did the ultrasound about a month after the injury, when it was feeling better b/c that was the first time I could get in (but, it should be noted, my calf tear was still showing up months after injury on an ultrasound, so I know they should still be evident), and I think the tech said if it was really deep an MRI might be needed. About a week after that, I felt it happen again. It's now been 2 months and it's plaguing me again and making me totally depressed b/c it feels like I should be fine, but I'm clearly not. I feel like I'm being gaslit by my own leg, lol. My dr has ordered an MRI now, but who knows when I'll get in for that after all is approved etc etc.

Has this happened to anyone before? Something not found on ultrasound that was detected on an MRI? Does anyone know what I mean by the bracing pain? It's not a normal muscle pain, it feels totally different.

Yes, thank you, it "is a thing" but a thing more useful for assessing gall bladders and venous thromboses than what the OP is describing.
Aren’t you a psychiatrist? People use it all the time for musculoskeletal diagnosis and even treatment. I.E. ultrasound guided injections

I’ve even seen it used as visual feedback for people motor learning purposes (TA activation)

Yes, people use it because it's cheap and immediately available, requires no insurance approval. Would use MRI all the time if it were similarly readily available
