Nadal agent says out for 4 weeks

However, the injury is not a recurrence of the tendinitis that has proved increasingly troublesome for Nadal and caused him to miss the defence of his Wimbledon title last year.

MRI and ultrasound tests showed a small tear at the back part of the Spaniard's right knee, reported Dr Angel Ruiz-Cotorro in a statement on Friday.

"After two weeks, and depending on the results of the different tests and controls, he will steadily resume his sporting activity with a total recovery time to resume competition in fours weeks," said Ruiz-Cotorro.

Nadal's antifan (me) says he's out of the top 2 for 4000 years (then we fall into a black hole and he's brought back to life at age 21)

Nadal should consider dropping all the events after the u.s. open every year. He will have to take some fines and his ranking might drop but he will have a real offseason and be healthier overall.

yeah he at least needs to take 2 months off end of year. he can play a couple of asian events but that's it. year end tournament is worthless IMO.

I love how everybody is trying to give suggestions for nadal's schedule when you now when he returns to the circuit he's just going to do exactly the same thing he did before.

Nadal can't schedule to save his life(or knees). Nadal is the kind of player that, when his legs hold up,plays through. This goes both for matches and tournaments in his schedule. Nadal doesn't think "hey I ****ed up my health in rotterdam last year so maybe I should skip it cause it is a small worthless tourney and is on HC". No,he assesses the state of his legs(knees) and if he is good to go,he plays. He played six months on HC after his injuries as long as his legs held up. When they didn't he retired,in AO 2010.

I've said in many times and I will say it again. Nadal is reckless as a player. It was his biggest strength and it will be his biggest weakness. He doesn't listen to his body, though there are signs that he may be starting to learn. He has a very competitive nature(and has been this way since he was a kid) and wants to win. He has no restraint and it shows in his play style. Nadal doesn't seem to think of his career,he just wants to go out and play tennis and win. That's why his body is in the state it is at 23,he pushed it too much and didn't think of himself too much.

He is also very stubborn. His uncle didn't want him to play Madrid but he did, probably cause it was in Spain. His uncle didn't want him to make the trip to London cause he though Rafa couldn't enter WB because of the knees. Rafa saw on the spot,in London, that he had trouble bending his knees and finally listened to his uncle's advice and withdrew.

BTW,Nadal is oficially skipping Rotterdam this year.

He's desprately trying to salvage a top 4 ranking but it looks like Kolj and delpo have got him.

Nadal doesn't give two craps about ranking when his career is in jeopardy. He has two problems:

1)staying healthy
2)beating top10 players.

Both affect his confidence and mental state.

Dropping down in ranking only means he could meet top players earlier so no matter how he is ranked he will have to deal with those two points up there.

Top 4 vs top 8= hugely harder draws. he doesnt seem to understand too much about staying healthy

Not really because Nadal's problem hasn't been meeting guys in the top20-top50 range, even on HC. It doesn't matter if he meets these top10 players in early rounds or finals,he needs(and I'm sure he knows this) to beat them to gain confidence. As I said,Nadal has two things he must overcome: his injury woes and his top10 peers, regardless of round.

Nadal was in crap, crap form(much worse than what he played in AO) after his injury and he while having problems with some dangerous floaters like Blake(twice),Robredo,Ljubicic,Almagro,Baghdatis,he still won and got through.

Right....

But seriously,I don't think anyone in his position would be thinking about rank when you keep getting injured and your future in the sport is in jeopardy. As he said in his latest interview,he just wants to go out and try to play his best tennis. I don't think many guys would want him in their way, regardless of where he is ranked or the surface they play on.

Looks like, after getting tested in Barcelona, Rafa himself said he needs 1 or 2 weeks of recovery and is "not worried" about the injury.

He even mentioned the possibility of playing Davis Cup vs. Switzerland, so it looks like he will be attempting to defend his Indian Wells title.

I dunno...If I'm Nadal, I might go away for 2-3 months and come back for clay and grass, then cite injuries and skip a large part of the summer season and play a bit during the indoor season that is easier on the knees.

Seems like Rafa could win 2-3 titles a year and always be a contender at the FO and Wimby AND be a top 5-10 player even with a very limited schedule. That seems like a much better scenario than the current one that he's in.

he should retire for a year to cure his knee and then come back as the old rafael nadal..
i think this would be best for him
but maybe DoubleDeuce is right and his career is over..

Just to be clear, this injury is not realted to his knee proble, is something that could happen even being completely rest. IT is no tlike he is the only one injured at this time of the year.

He definitely doesn't seem to think long term, and just wants to win.right.now. That's not going to work for a player with his style of game.

Maybe he should follow the Serena's lead and just go for the Slams and not go all out in every single match.

This would be a pretty decent schedule:
Sydney
Aussie Open
Indian Wells
Miami
Rome
Madrid
French Open
Wimbledon
Canada
Cincy
US Open
Paris
London (if qualified)

I don't see nadal removing any clay events from his schedule especially masters. Also I think nadal won't skip the only grass warm up event of the year before Wimbledon
