Nadal better not mess this up........

there will be some moments of nervousness and possibly some bad patches of play but i think rafa will claim his 13th roland garros ultimately.........djokovic does not know what to do when nadal's forehand DTL is ON........that shot will define in how many sets rafa will win tomorrow.........if it is slightly off, the match may go to 5 sets but i expect a 4 set victory.......

Was looking for a post on FH DTL. It is big if though. If he gets it working it's going to be RG 2014 all over again. If not, perhaps closer to 2015.

If this match goes 5, im gonna need Oxygen LOL, Jesus take the wheel!
If Nadal has to win, he has to do it in 4.
He doesn't have the fitness to stay with Novak for 5 sets. I've already seen him tired so many times after a couple of hours. He just throws loopers and short balls.
Besides Novak hasn't lost much at all in the 5th set after 2017. He is mental juggernaut. In 5 sets, there is only one winner.

How often has Nadal played a fifth set in the final at RG? Never

How often has Nadal played a fifth set at RG? Only twice (Isner 2011 and Djokovic 2013).

Chances are it's going to be 4 sets at most.

All this work, his entire career, the ups, the downs, the injuries, the bad losses, etc. Golden chance to get to 20 on his home court. Don't mess it up Rafa, remember who you are! It would be so gross for him to lose this match.

Heart says Nadal, head says Nadal. But Djokovic has a way of ruining plans............... just depends which Rafa shows up. I hope it's confident Rafa and not nervous Rafa. Moya better be giving him the talk. 99-2 at RG.... it speaks for itself. What an awful time it would be to finally end up being 3 :sneaky:

You should be confident in your guy. A lot of people are picking novak which is ridiculous considering nadal hasn’t even lost a set and has won this 3 times in a row coming in.

ok so what does Nadal have to do tomorrow if he's to win his 13th major ?
He has to come out playing aggressively and confidently from the very first ball. Go to net a lot, lots of volleying. Hit that DTLFH often, watch that his cross-court shots go deep with sharp angles. Get to Djokovic’s drop shots! Keep a poker face. Serve well. Play at a faster pace than usual. And believe! :)

I am tensed as hell now Lol. Never feel this nervous before any of Rafa previous RG Final.
Why? He's won 12 RGs. He's owned Novak and Fed over there. Novak with a 6-1 record.
Even if Nadal loses tomorrow, it doesn't change his legacy. His record on clay will NEVER EVER be broken even if he is triple bageled tomorrow.

The biggest ones for Rafa were F.O 2010 - facing the man who mercilessly beat him a year earlier. And F.O 2012 -when he came in having 3 consecutive losses in slams to Novak.
He triumphed both times. And that's enough for his legacy. Nadal is playing with house money tomorrow..

OMG. It's just devastating. Every single shot Nadal hit in 2008 was a canon. There was no ball that he couldn't reach.
He's not even half the player now that he used to be.
The closer we get to this match the more it's feeling like Australia 2019 for me.

All the signs were there for the challenger to upset the favorite. Then the match started and you instantly remembered why the favorite is the all-time leader at that court.

This is what I hope to see.... Nadal hitting his shots ON the baseline and moving Djokovic around.

I think Nadal himself said that 2008 RG against Nole was the best match he ever played at RG. Couldn't find the quote now but I read that somewhere in the past.

Edit: I just find it now

Q. If everything goes well for you you will play your 100th game in Roland Garros this year. What is the best game you have ever played here in Paris?
RAFAEL NADAL: I think probably was the semifinal match against Djokovic 2008, probably, I think during two sets and a half probably played one of the best matches, yeah.

He better, considering the amount of depth he's been getting on his groundstrokes this tournament. He'll need to step in more if he wants to do any real damage on this court.
How many FDL can hit Nadal against Djokovic in the final?

I think people are giving Nadal little to no credit right now. It’s Rafa at the French Open. No matter what happens at the tournament it’s still the guys backyard. Like I said it before, a few years ago 2018/2019, everybody kept going crazy because a few practice partners said the courts were “completely different”. And Nadal still won the tournament with relative ease.

The conditions “favour” Djokovic but they favored Thiem more, and he lost in the QF’s to a guy who Nadal straight setted.

Except if 2008 Nadal were playing right now, you would be saying he wouldn't stand a chance against Djokovic.
I didn't doubt 2008 Nadal. When Federer was 5-1 up in Hamburg final I thought Nadal still has a chance to win the set. And he did...2008 Nadal can lose, but only after giving it all on court. On the other hand, current Nadal probably already lost the final to Djokovic in his head.

Rafa better tests Novak's overheads. If they happen to work too, no chances for the bull

Some of Nole's overheads in this tournament have been so weak that I honestly wonder if he is playing possum on the overhead to the Nadal camp so that Rafa feeds him lobs in the final.
