On Tennis Channel Paul Annacone asked him about the foot.
Rafa says "being honest, the foot is bothering me. Was painful tonight." "I hope the foot gonna be improving." :cry:
he said he would try and be ready for tomorrow. We'll see.

Hope he recovers soon

This is a congenital anomaly of a tarsal bone in his left foot that troubles him. Pain related to the anomaly flares up from time to time. The anomaly started to cause him pain when he was 19 years old.

Yes I know. And he wears special soles on his shoes to help. It looked bad enough I’m afraid he might pull out. I want him to be healthy for the us open but the selfish part of me wants to see him keep playing here so I can see him playing a couple more times! Glad he gave us a thrilling match at least! Rafa is such a fighter!

I know he and his team will decide based on what they think is best for Rafa. It's obvious he wants to go out there and continue to be competitive.

He stomped his left foot on the ground a couple of times again in front of me like he was mad. Sunday I got video of him hopping after a missed returned serve. Def his left foot. Could be knee too. He’s getting old unfortunately.

I think he would have retired tonight during the match if citi open wouldn’t have paid him a handsome sum of money to come play here and made this all about him. Rafa is a fighter though and still wanted it no matter what it was. A 500 event where he was hurt and still fought his ass off. It’s why I love Rafa. He’s a beast.

Was in attendance tonight. Great match!! I’m skeptic that he’ll play tomorrow though… the limping and clear left foot discomfort are worrisome to say the least

It was a great match. My first ever Rafa match live in person. Was quite a treat to see him fight like always to the end. I am worried too that he won't play tomorrow. It's hard to see him hurt so bad. Have watched rafa for over 14-15 years and that might be the worst I've seen him struggle in a match from an injury other than the AO final against stan.
