Tidbits from his presser

Nadal was full of praise for the Swiss. "He played unbelievable," said the Spaniard. "He was unplayable I think in this first set. I just can congratulate him for his victory and another great tournament for him. He played unbelievable during all the week without losing a set, being in the final. So his level was very high. I tried my best this afternoon, but he was better than me."

I think is not the right moment to talk about that," Nadal told reporters when asked if he was suffering physically against the 16-times grand slam champion.

"The thing is everybody saw the match yesterday, so everybody's free to think his own opinion.
"But I'm not gonna say I lost the match because I was tired. What I'm gonna say and what I feel is I lost the match because I played against a very good Roger Federer on one of his favorite surfaces. When he's playing like this, it's very difficult to stop him. I had chances, but not enough."

Over the course of 22 career meetings, Nadal admitted, “Our relationship [hasn’t] changed a lot since the beginning because all the time [we have been] very respectful. So I think [it] is not a rivalry. We never had any problems in all of our careers.”

“I think [it] was a very emotional season. I am very happy for everything and just [want to] say thank you very much [to] all the people that supported me when I had the difficult moments [and] when I was winning.”

Looking ahead to 2011, Nadal insists “the pressure for me is going to be the same.

“When I start the season, everything starts. I don't think [about] if I have to defend 100,000 points or if I have to defend 1,000 points. In Australia or in Doha when I start the season, I [will] have zero points.

“[My] first goal is qualification for London next year, and after we will see. I [am] going to work to be ready and competitive to try to be in the top positions and to compete to keep winning titles.

“The goal is the same: try to play well; try to compete against everybody and try to be in the final rounds.”

LOL. No he's not. He has nothing to be bitter about.

I don't think he's a liar or bitter (though he's probably not happy about losing).

However, I have to question the thing about his number one goal being to qualify for the WTF again. That's a pretty lowly goal for a guy that won 3 slams this year.

He hasn't exactly done well at the end of seasons so he may be playing ot conservitively?

“I always knew it was going to be an interesting match [today]. I think we obviously have a huge amount of respect for each other. I admire his game. Today was another great match, I thought, with some fantastic rallies. I know it doesn't take anything away from his great season, because it was magnificent.”

I think for him to be in London is equivalent of having a spectacular season. He also says he wants to keep winning titles, and being in finals. I'm sure tho, he has AO as a goal.

When Rodge fell on the ground because of a net-drop, Nadal, while walking to the net, looked at Rodge and said "sorry"
I liked that, he looked sincere.

Really [unnecessary].

For some reason the above is not 10 characters(!?)

personally i think rafa was spent after murray.
just like rogers win in hamburg caught a flat rafa.
nonetheless rafa would have beaten anyone else but roger today

What do people expect Nadal to say??? I think he is a great champian and his kind words about the match just go to show that.

What a liar, he's so bitter.

you're the bitter one, he's the one who will give credit to his adversary, the one who beat him. You, on the other hand, harbor some grudge against Rafa for how he is doing.

seriously, the fed-****s are turning me to a Rafa-****. >.<

Rafa had basically a month off after Asia this season. Federer has played 4 back to back tournaments and also played later last night than Nadal did. Also Federer is 29 and Nadal is 24. Who cares if Nadal had a grueling match with Murray the day before? He IS a professional tennis player after all isn't he? This IS what he signed up for. Being tired is not an excuse for the loss today. Nadal is a phenomenal player and he is #1 but Roger just had better stuff today. End of story.

I'm tempted to. Is Laver or Rosewall on your side?

Laver after Rafito's 2008 Wimbly win

“Until today, Roger was the best player in the world - now Nadal is”.

“To not be on clay, his surface, and do that. I'm just amazed. What an unbelievable performance. My hat is off to Rafael because of how he pulled this off. His fitness is quite amazing. He looks like he could play for a day-and-a-half”.

“It was so competitive and such wonderful tennis you have to figure it's just going to do wonders for the game”.

Rosewall is undecided.

:D

Not sure where to post this, but in the interest of happy, positive Fedal vibes, apparantly one of the livestreams/channels showing the match also showed the players walking into the tunnel afterwards.

Rafa's mom and sis both hugged and congratulated Fed.

Both Rafa and Fed have super classy families.

But what Nadal is really saying is, 'I hope you journos will say I lost because I'm tired, because I need an excuse, no?'

Yeah, he says everybody saw the match yesterday, and knows it took his lame a** 3+ hours to beat Murray (even though Fed cruised to an easy straight set win over Murray earlier in the event!) I mean if Nadal is so good, why couldn't he do the same to Murray?

OF COURSE Nadal wants to remind everyone of the match yesterday, and insinuate that he lost in the finals to Federer, cuz he wuz tired!

Well actually once Mirka tried to give Rafa a crushing hug but Rafa backed off and settled for a handshake :) j/k.

Do you have a link or pic of this. Obviously, they understand how much goes into this, and how deserving of respect the oppo too is.

Total class.

This is true. They all congradulate to the winner.

I can only remember in 2005 USO final, where Fed beat Andre and Graf, who was in the stand from the beginning to the end, disappear from the scene after the match point.

Don't talk about implications, Fed also in his presser, said something like, "I won't say I gave him the second set..." Taken out of context, it's comparable no?

He clearly states why he lost, tired or no tired. Rogi was better.

Ahh though he was contemplating their next move, " ay caramba, el goat backhand better today , no good for my nephew, lady caca. Must teach Rafael new way, like swinging his racket with left leg , no? It give el goat mucho problem for next 5 years. Vamo!!"

It's a ashame that a few of you including namelessone insist the rafa was tired, which he was at a disadvantage in the final. But that's far from the truth. In the semifinal, Nadal's match was scheduled 9am Eastern time, and Roger's match was 3pm Eastern time. That's 6 hours before Roger !!

Let say Roger left the court at 5pm on Saturday, the final was scheduled 12:30pm Sunday, you are looking at around 16.5 hours for Roger to recover before playing Nadal. If anyone who's at the disadvantage in the final, it's Roger. Not to mention he's 5 yrs older than rafa. In fact, Fed fans are in better position to point out Roger was at a disadvantage(but we don't), and you guys should be happy that Nadal played first !

You guys are so clueless.

Did you forget that nadal was on court for 3 hours? Playing a much more physical game that Fed played against Novak for what a little under an hour thirty?

The tired Nadal excuse is old.

Didnt look so tired when he beat Fed at the AO 09 after playing a far more grueling match against Clowndasco the day before.

Right ?

But of course, winning while being so ''tired'' makes him something like a war hero.

And he only loses when he's tired or injured.

Keep in mind 3 hrs does not equate to all playing time, but dead time. Nadal consumed a lot of times between points. In contrast to Roger, he played at a quicker pace. Some of his service game only lasted one minute !

One can be sure that Señor Toni has taken notice of the changes in Fed's game/strategy etc and will come out adequately prepared to counter it next time they play.
