Natural Gut stringing mistake

Hi all,

TW made a mistake in stringing my Volkl C10 Pro racket.

What I asked: Hybrid stringing

Mains=Natural Gut @40 lbs (Babolat Tonic 15l)
Cross=Quasi Gut @40 lbs (Quasi Gut 17g)

What TW did: Non-hybrid stringing (Full Natural gut)

Mains=Natural Gut @40 lbs (Babolat Tonic 15l)
Cross=Natural Gut @40 lbs (Babolat Tonic 15l)

Solution:
TW re-strung the racket as I originally requested

Questions:
1-Mains
Is there a risk of potential damage to the mains if you constantly change the crosses?

2-crosses
If you remove the natural gut crosses without cutting it, is it still usable? Will it be long enought to use in the Mains for my next string job?

Not sure what you mean by constantly changing the crosses... but if you are planning to remove the crosses and restring the mains I would not do it. You will probably warp the racket head.

But for the second question... NO, there is not enough string from the crosses to be used for the mains.

Ricardo,
Sorry to hear that we made that mistake but I'm glad we were able to correct it for you.
In response to your questions, we never recommend replacing either the mains or the crosses without replacing both simultaneously; it can damage the frame/frame's integrity. Also, if you were to only replace the crosses, the mains would experience more wear during the re-stringing process (burning, notching, etc).
If you remove the mains to re-use they will not be long enough to string the same racquet since the knots were trimmed. Also the time spent removing and reinstalling the string would not be worth it since the stress and damage the string has already endured would have made it fragile and susceptible to breaking very quickly.

Thank you Tennis Warehouse...

TW really takes care of its customers. I now consider myself a captive TW customer.

TW did the following for me:

1 - Re-strung my Volkl C10 Pro racket (from full-bed natural gut to hybrid)
2 - Sent me an upgraded natural gut half set (from Babolat Tonic to Babolat VS).

Again, thank you very much...

Given what you asked for and what you got....

I would have just enjoyed a nice full bed of natural gut.

It is nice that TW fixed their mistake, but if I were the stringer, I'd hate to have cut out a full bed of natural gut.

But they did you right and sent you the extra half set.

Enjoy your hybrids.

I fully agree with your coments. However, i already tried full bed of Natural gut. It plays well. however, i am hesitant to continue spending that kind of money all the time so i wanted to try NG mains and synthetic gut crosses to determine if playability/comfort is comparable/acceptable ( i also have chronic TE/GE) to NG full bed.

I also agree that cutting out NG is a huge waste. however, mistakes happen, and the more expensive the mistake, hopefully, the better for future error prevention. Hopefully, TW will review their process to make sure mis-communication is minimized at all levels.

i am more so intrigued by how you can play natural gut @ 40# ! wow! i tried playing it at 48# and it was a trampoline. what kind of stroke do you hit with?

TW shows, once again, why they have such loyal customers.

Buffman: a lot of strings play a LOT differently at low tensions than they do at higher tensions. Take a look at the posts Chris made about playing with poly at 30, 20, and 10 pounds. He even went so far as to handpull strings on one of his rackets. Basically, he concluded that there was little difference in how he was able to play (his shots weren't flying), and that the polys he was playing with felt extremely soft.

Primary goal is arm comfort...

My primary goal in stringing NG @40 lbs is arm comfort, not playability.

The main reason i bought volkl c10 pro is due to its claimed arm-friendliness.
same reason for NG, arm-friendliness.

I also believe that lower tension is more arm-friendly than higher tension.

when my arm gets better/healthier, i would then consider playability my primary goal. until that time, my arm-comfort is my priority.

This is why I continue to buy from TW Europe (and US) - even though I can get alæmost as good a price at my local tennis shop.

TW offer great customers service and fair prices.
