Hey guys,

I play a wilson ntour at 57lbs with prince topspin strings. I love how the racket feels off the baseline and for serves, but it just seems too heavy and unwieldy for a serve and volley player like me. It also feels like I frame the ball too frequently.

I play tested the RDS 001 midplus (the yellow one? the naming is very confusing!) and I loved it! The only thing I didn't like about the racket was that I had to really swing out to keep the ball deep and I got tired much faster than normal. Would playing with a low tension (around 53) be enough to counteract this or should I consider the RDS 003?

I am considering those two rackets first of all because they have just come down in price, but if there are some other yonex frames that sound like they would fit me, please say so!

Cheers!

Oh, I forgot to mention that I tried the RDS 002. However, it did not resemble the 001 nearly as much as I had hoped. It felt like it lacked in every department except power, much too big of a tradeoff. Perhaps this was due to strings and tension, but I can't recall what the demo was strung with.

be careful with yonex about serve, it screwed up my serve. stock frame yonex actually allow me to hit a fast pace ball, but the ball is less heavier than a racquet which has swingweight heavier than 320.

Yosh,

Try the RDS 002 TOUR. It has some extra mass for plow thru and is a beast at serving! EXCELLENT all around stick.

Oh, I had completely overlooked the tour! Thanks for pointing that out, I will definitely check that out. Oh, and out of curiosity, is the yonex claim of a bigger sweetspot real or just hype? My 2HBH felt really nice with the stick.

I don't know about having a bigger sweetspot, but it is a much more stable racquet than others in the same size class. The tour has some pop though, so I would suggest stringing it higher than normal. Mine is strung at 66 right now with PSG multifilament but will probably drop it down to 64 next time.

I've tried the 001 Mid, MP, 002T UL/SL n 003.

The 003 is a real gem of a tweener's stick, decent pop if a bit light.

The Mid was a little light n too underpowered.

The MP was nice if a little too stiff.

The 002T SL was a great stick, very, very stable, creates a heavy ball. Somewhat sluggish but has a very good blend of power n stability.

The 002T UL would be a perfect stick if only they came in grip size larger than 4 1/4. Lighter more maneuverable version of the SL.

Hi Yosh,

i would try lead tape on the RDS 001 and see if that might help.

I used the RDS 001 before but found it too light overall for me.
so i added lead to the handle, throat, and some on the 3 and 9 positions on the frame.

have fun with the lead tape

I just realized that the RDS 001 and 003 are now under $100, but the RDS 002 still remains at a lofty $150! How can that be?

try the successor of the RDS 001 Mp the new RDiS 100 MP. I was playing with the 001 and i found the 100 better.

Maybe RDS 002/tour rackets might still sell well without discounts.
Or yonex does not give more incentives yet. I think if there is new Rackets on Feb, RDS 002 rackets might be less.
My local store sells RDS 002 tour for $110 now. Just bought RQIS 2 tour but Very tempting to buy RDS 002 tour.

I play with the RDS 001 MP 2006 and 2008 models. It is my favorite stick (sold the others). I play with 2hbh. However, it is my best shot and I tried -believe me- different set ups with lead at 12 to get the most out of it. I settled with two (2) strips of 3.75" of 1/4 lead tape under the bumper guard. Is not much, but at the 12 position you tend to feel the weight more than any other part of the racquet. It took me just a few hitting sessions to adjust my strokes. But the reward is unbelievable. I get more power and the racquet feels more solid, especially at the upper part of it, where I hit the most and where all racquets have less power. Look at the Babolats, some of their racquets have "place lead tape" or something like that at 12 o'clock for a reason.

BTW, I also added some weight at the bottom, to polarize the racquet. To add weight at the handle or bottom of the racquet without using lead tape:
a) Remove the original Yonex grip. It only weights 13 grams! It is one of the lightest grip. You can put a Babolat syntetic (17.6 g.), Head ConforTac (21-22 g.) or a leather grip (Gamma 20-24 g. or Tennis Ware-house 28-32 g.).

b) Remove the buttcap. Place a quarter (5 g.) at the bottom of the buttcap and glue it with lots of crazy glue. Put the buttcap again using a staple gun. The quarter is not going to rattle.

http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/LC/customize.html

c) Do a + b.

Or

a) You can wrap some lead tape where the buttcap ends and starts the handle alone or with a + b.

With weight at the 12 o'clock position and at the bottom of the handle, I assure you the Yonex is going to be more powerful and stable. Do not need to move to other Yonex versions. Do it after you end with the customizing.

I hope this helps.

hey yosh, guess what? i used to play with the kfactor 95's and i snapped both of em so my friend is going to sell me 3 rds001 mp. muhahaha.

but anyway, ill let u guys know how that will go. im planning on stringing them at around 53 cause i know that yonex are some of the most lower powered racquets.

most likely yonex is trying to clear all remaining stocks for the RDS001 and 003 so they can focus on pushing the replacement racquets RDIS100 & 300 into the market - the update for RDS002 Tour has not arrived yet and take note it was released later into the market the the 001 and 003 thus slashing the prices would be later as well.

Simply said the "product life" for RDS002 Tour has not expired yet :)

Don´t forget about the RQiS 1 Tour!!

I play with this racquet and it´s an excellent and comfortable frame, but as the other Yonex models has a lack of power.

I add lead tapes at 3 and 9 and it´s quite good...but I will try "The pure one" advises with lead tapes at 12 and the bottom of the grip just to see how it goes.

Cheers
