Need advice on stringing machine

I haven't broken my strings yet, but I always notice how more advanced players often break their strings. I bet that buying a stringing machine will be a lot cheaper then going to a pro shop after a year or two.

I was just wondering how much would it cost to buy a reasonable stringing machine? I don't need the best in the world, neither do I want a bad cheap machine, just a good machine. I also heard that it matters more about who is stringing the racquet rather than the machine.

Also where would you guys put your machine? I don't have a lot of space in the house, if I cleaned the garage maybe I could fit it in there. Is there a specific way to store the machine too? Is the machine movable or do you like nail it to the ground?

Sage,
Even if you don't break strings it is advisable to restrung several times per year. The old rule of thumb, if you play 4 days a week, you should restring 4 times a year...

I will skip to question 3 - If you don't have room, their are many quality machines that are table top stringers. Much easier to store than a stand alone machine...

Question 2 - I totally agree with your statement about the quality of the stringer. Being consistent and have a repeatable procedure will always produce consistent results...How much to spend - many will tell you about the Klippermate - it is only 145...You need to set your budget - If you have 600, I really like the alpha revo table top machine - The more you spend on a machine, usually results in better quality clamps, clamping system, and over all stability of the machine. A better machine also makes stringing faster - but you can do a good job with one of the drop weight machines like the Klippermate. Good Luck....

I agree with theace21, I would like to add do not buy machine with flying clamps, you will not get the same tension twice.

Really? My strings aren't loose or anything, I'm not worried about how well my string is preforming, but will it damage my racquet by keeping the string on too long? I play probably 5+ days a week since late feb of this year.

Leaving strings in too long won't damage the racquet, but they could put more stress on your arm. Strings loose resilience with age and you may have to work harder to get the same results. The rule of thumb that theace21 uses is the same one most stringers recommend. If you play 5 days per week you should restring your racquet every 2-3 mos.

I'd go for the Klippermate. It's perfect for beginners and it does a quality job. It's easy to store, and it comes with very good instructions.
