What would be the best stringing machine for a low price (about under $400.) I have never strung a racquet before, so I need all the advice I can get for the best stringing machine at a low price for a beginner. Thanks.

I just ordered the Alpha Pioneer DC plus for $399 plus shipping. If you are looking for the machine w/fixed clamps under $400, that would be a good machine for you!! There are a lot cheaper ones with flying clamps, such as Klippermate, or Gamma X-2..etc. I also have Gamma X-2 ($139), and it is an excellent machine for the value. I used for maybe five months, and decided to upgrade the machine to the Alpha because I wanted fixed clamps. I don't mind using the drop weight at all because I believe it's more accurate than cheaper electric motors, and I didn't wanna spend more than $400-500 because I just string racquets for myself and probably a few friends sometimes. I am planning to use it for long time.

Eagnas flex 740. I actually own that machine. If you are going to get into stringing then I wouldn't suggest a drop weight at all. Those things take much longer to string than a crank machine. If you start thinking about it on a basis of how much $$$ you make per hour you might as well invest in a good crank.

With a good crank you will get consistent string jobs, with a drop weight you will have rely on how good you are at using that machine and trust me it takes a while to get the hang of using a drop weight. After a year my flex 740 has paid itself off, but I think I would have been more satisfied if I had purchased a good crank from the start. I recently purchased an Ektelon model H. It ended up costing me around $500 which is a pretty decent price. You will get years of usage out of a crank and it will have good resale value if you decide to stop stringing.

Maybe shintan can sell you his Gamma X2...

If he's going to take the risk with Eagnas maybe he should get hte Flex 940? Much more machine for only $400.

Really? The 940 doesn't appear to me to be that much better than the 300--just swivel clamps instead of glide bar clamps (a tie IMO) and an arguably better 6-point mounting system on the 940 instead of the 2-point system on the 300.

What else makes the 940 much more of a machine than the 300? I am not trying to start an argument, but I have been considering buying one of these two models myself and read everying on tw and stringforums.com I could find.
