If you follow the pattern, it looks like the next No.1 will be Murray (although it can be short).
He could be the first player in open era to become No.1 for the first time after turning 30.
Or will Djokovic ruin his dreams?

I am a big fan of Murray, but after the French performance I have doubts he will take another slam, let alone take the top spot. Maybe if Djokovic's legs fell off...

I dont forsee Murray ever getting to #1, but he can win more slams.

Grand Slams are all single elimination Best of 1 match set ups, not series based like say the NBA. Its designed so the best player does not always win (which is what makes holding all 4 at the same time even more insane).

I would love to see it and it all depends how he does during the 2nd half of 2016. I think this year probably is his best chance ever since he now only has to worry about Djokovic with the decline and injury problems of Federer and Nadal. He has to win Wimbledon and USO, I think, to have any chance. That will be tough.

He has a good chance to win Wimbledon IMO.

His best chance of making number #1 was after he won 2013 Wimbledon. At that stage, the gap between him and Djokovic was not so great and he had a realistic chance of going for it if he kept up his level. But, of course, he didn't. Shortly afterwards he had the back surgery and spent a whole season and a half trying to get back on track. In the meantime, Djokovic just forged ahead with his game and the gap between them grew ever larger. Now its practically insurmountable so that, so long as Djokovic keeps playing and winning, there will be no chance for Murray or anyone to take it from him.

I still entertain hopes of him nabbing another Slam (or hopefully 2) before he's done but, much as it pains me to say it, the number #1 ranking is now effectively out of his reach for good I'm afraid!

Who will it be then if Djokovic declines or get injured?

If Djokovic got injured then we could be talking, but I don't want to see that. I'm thinking Murray will be declining when Djokovic is and somebody else will be stepping up by then. Only way Murray gets number 1 is if Djokovic isn't there. Can't see it.
