The Asics GSS3 and SSFF feel less secure for my D width feet. I find both SS models to have very slippery laces which loosen out quickly and allows too much movement of the feet in the shoe, which gave me soreness. Securing the laces often alleviated this issue. The heel depth is also shallower in the Asics, which means I have to use all holes to secure my foot, but ankle support is minimal. Cushioning is great but feels 'higher' up and with the lack of proper ankle support, gives me an uneasy feeling. Traction is better than the Cage 3.
The Cage 3's sockliner holds the foot better and gives better ankle support. However, it's also one of the most difficult shoes to put on because of the tight fit. It's also the more durable, while giving me a lower feel with ample cushioning, though not as good as the Asics.
For me, the Cage 3 is a better fitting shoe with better durability, while being slightly lighter than the GSS3 but not the SSFF. But fit is most important and I don't have soreness with the Cage 3 after 3 hard sets, whereas the Asics SSFF/GSS3 forces me to retie the laces often to ensure I avoid the soreness. For me, the Cage 3 is the better shoe, and it's cheaper too!
