Nike Cage 3

I have to ask where is the upper breaking down? I've had 5 pairs of the cage 3, play about 7 hrs a week, and those shoes last 2-2.5 months before the outsole hits the midsole, usually in toe area. I don't slide too much. Nike is a little arbitrary in how they decide to replace. They replaced 2 pairs but not a 3rd. It's lightweight enough for a 'durability' shoe.

How do these shoes compare to Asics Gel rez and Asics speed? Also, are they similar to Nike CB 4.3?

e. Maybe a good example is Benoit Paire switching to the Propulse from the CB
I bought the propulse and like them. While the narrow forefoot is perfect/ tight these extra room for toes but foot doesn't move forward. I use all the holes so the slightly loose heel is unnoticeable. The new model looks like it might fit even better. Also bought a pair of Diadora blushield, little too wide up front but can tighten it up.

Never used Asics before but did have many CBs. Durability wise it’s about the same as the CBs imo. If you ever tried the Air Max Breathe Free/Cage series you’ll like the ZC3s.

The main difference between cb3 and cage 3 is the upper. No support in the upper of the cage 3, it flexes and moves with any pressure easily, I use mine on clay only due to this.
Asics gr7 I found fit well and cushy, not better than the bab, dia I bought but could have settled with those or fila, kswiss offerings also

Asics are way longer. I think they would fit different types of feet. ZC3 definitely has a good amount of support as well? Not sure what poster above is experiencing.

The Asics GSS3 and SSFF feel less secure for my D width feet. I find both SS models to have very slippery laces which loosen out quickly and allows too much movement of the feet in the shoe, which gave me soreness. Securing the laces often alleviated this issue. The heel depth is also shallower in the Asics, which means I have to use all holes to secure my foot, but ankle support is minimal. Cushioning is great but feels 'higher' up and with the lack of proper ankle support, gives me an uneasy feeling. Traction is better than the Cage 3.
The Cage 3's sockliner holds the foot better and gives better ankle support. However, it's also one of the most difficult shoes to put on because of the tight fit. It's also the more durable, while giving me a lower feel with ample cushioning, though not as good as the Asics.
For me, the Cage 3 is a better fitting shoe with better durability, while being slightly lighter than the GSS3 but not the SSFF. But fit is most important and I don't have soreness with the Cage 3 after 3 hard sets, whereas the Asics SSFF/GSS3 forces me to retie the laces often to ensure I avoid the soreness. For me, the Cage 3 is the better shoe, and it's cheaper too!

The sock liner fits tight and feels good, but support from a sock? When your running full speed sideways and need to dig in to switch directions, compared to a layer of leather with second layer of strips .... the c3 no

The C3 has a PVC PU upper 'cage' which holds the sock liner. Both the sockliner and the cage hold the foot from slipping too much when you make directional changes.
With the Asics, the upper is less snug and doesn't hold my foot down, especially with the lacing system.

Maybe it's pvc, its very flexible like a rubberband, no support

Thanks for your replies :) . It sounds like the cage 3 is similar to the old nike cb 4.3. The only thing I liked about the nike Lunar's were the ankle support and lightness. Everything else sucked including how it looked.

It will be a tough call to decide between the nike cage 3 and asics gel rez which are my main options.

I liked the cb 4.3 and gel rez 5 and 7 range. I will probably not consider adidas again even though I find them the most durable.

I am a toe dragger but have found shoe goo very good at extending the life of shoes. I do have sensitive feet and can barely walk barefoot on hard surfaces. There is a chance that with whichever shoe I buy that if i don't like its insoles that I will use sofsoles of some sort.

Completely agree. Cage does not really stretch/flex for me. Holds me in place better than almost any other shoe.

My mistake! It's PU Kurim, not PVC. Brain fart moment. No shoe is a universal fit. It works well for me but unfortunately for you, it doesn't.

The biggest problem is that fit isn't universal, but individual. The C3 did get looser on break-in, then it stabilizes.

Well with a thicker insole, your heel will sit higher, and Asics' instep is pretty shallow.

I wonder if I go up a half size if the cage 3 will fit.......
That was my experience... Nike size 9.5 has fit me perfectly for decades (not just tennis models) but had to go 9.0 with Cage 2s... Seems with the 3 they went back to "normal" sizing as the 9.5 Cage 3s fit and feel great, on my second pair...

I went up half a size and I regretted it. I usually wear 9.5 but I could feel the midsole wasn't wide enough (idk why I dont have wide feet), it wasn't tight but if I put pressure on the outside of the shoe I could feel the edge of my foot slipping. I went to 10 and it felt perfect. 3 days in and the sock line stretched out like crazy and I had to seriously sinch them tight. Luckily the shank cracked so I was able to return them for Vapour X. Much better shoes in terms of support.

Lol Once I read this I had to check my ZC3s just in case it has a crack at the shank. Next thing you know it has one..don’t know how it happened but it looks like I’m getting new shoes.

I have had a couple of the Vapor Tour 9.5 shanks crack on me. I was disappointed.

It depends. I’ve worn through 3 pairs of cage 3s now. First 2 pairs were half size larger and they felt great when new. As they wore in and stretched, I could feel the front of the shoe twisting laterally when I made hard stops and sharp cuts.

For my 3rd pair, I went back to my regular size. For the first 3 weeks, I experienced some pain in my forefoot due to the snug fit. However after the shoe stretched out, the pain went away and the fit was quite good. But I did realize that the shank isn’t rigid enough. I could feel the shank flexing excessively.

I have to say the tweaked AZC3 is somewhat more uncomfortable than the original with the flexier cage and requires a longer break-in! I finally used up my last 1.0 version and went to the 1.1 with the reinforced cage. I walked around with it for 30 mins with a thin pair of socks, thinking that would be enough to break in the shoe. That's what I did with the first 5 pairs of V1.0. The V1.1 is stiffer and became more uncomfortable after 20 mins of soft running. Rather disappointing as I just bought 3 pairs of these in the outlet store! Sigh!

I think they break in to feel very similar - I'm going back and forth between a few and don't notice a difference.

My new pair does feel flexible compared to what I remember of the previous (pink) pair. But I probably thought that about the first pair, and the break-in was brutal back then, so we'll see.

How long do your cages last on average? I feel like I'm going through a pair every 4 months

Well I just found a new pair of V.1.0 AZC3 and it breaks in as I remembered, minimal and without the pain. The Rafa versions are just horrible for my feet. YMMV!

the cage 3 is a little uncomfortable for me.. the cage 2 was perfect for my foot.. the 3 stretches a bit and actually is great after a few hours of wear. the locked in feel is great on the court..but, a little tricky getting on.. they last 3-4 months. the last pair i just sent in for the durability guarantee was declined due to the tongue tags wore off from the constant friction of getting them on and off..combined with the funk factory my feet produce, i just bought a new pair and will make sure that doesn't happen again.. this is my 4th pair of 3's and this was the first time that happened. i returned them as defective at my local store and they were happy to give me my money back. nike is really the best when it comes to the guarantee and the customer service. been wearing a version of the cage for 10 years now and have claimed 30 pairs in that time.

No wonder I'm payin $140 for a pair, your welcome
i couldn't agree more.. the cost is ridiculous.. 25% off right now.. last day. i just got some cage 3's for $67.. you shouldn't pay $130 for shoes.. but, nike is amazing..they give full retail replacement no matter what you paid initially.. best policy out there. it is my understanding that something like 2% of the shoes bought are returned for the guarantee.. so my 30 pairs over a decade hasn't hurt you one iota..

Where’s this 25% off? The only 25% I know is Nike. $67? Where at? I’m doing some customs on two of my ZC3s and I want to get some more?

Does anybody have an issue with the cut near the ankle? Somehow the new pair that I bought is rubbing against the bone and is uncomfortable. I also wear aftermarket insoles just fyi. The last version that I wore didn’t do that.

I did notice that the collar and heel counter to be different in the V1.1 shoe. In V1.0, I could use the runner's lacing system to cinch up the collar so I get enough support. With V1.1, both pairs I have feel uncomfortable against the heel counter, resulting in some heel discomfort. One pair was bad on the left side and the other more on the right side. So I think it's just the QC.

Well it's the darnedest thing, today on my left inside ankle I was getting alot of rubbing out of nowhere from the sleeve. Got to a point where it was really uncomfortable but I ignored it as much as I could. It could be the latest version as in V1 I didn't have this problem...

I thought it was just me, on my right side outside ankle I’ve gotten a little rubbing. It’s gotten better the more I wear them. Maybe it’s just part of the break-in process. Other than that, I like the shoe, it’s lightweight but very supportive and obviously durable.

I figured out that if i tie them tight enough (not to the point of no blood circulation) it would go away. Couple weeks in and it starting to go away. Like @TagUrIt said, it’s part of the break-in process. I have two more pairs that are new and we’ll see how it goes. One is from ‘17 wave and the other is from ‘18 wave.

Yeah I usually heel lock all my tennis shoes, maybe I'll try to cinch them in a bit more next hit.

Hi, I would like to know if the rubbing eventually go away? Because I got the same issue in the left shoe and get a painfull blíster that could'nt even walk, just in like 2 hours. Thanks
