Nole has saved Fed's legacy essentially

or else as we all know, Nadal would be far away the greatest of the modern era (2000's- present) already. With 17-18 slams already, and quite a few more masters titles, and at least a YEC or two.
So basically you want no opposition for Nadal. Very strong era that would be indeed.

Anyone who beats Nadal is doing Fed's dirty work. LOL, what desperation.

As we know, Fed could NOT stop Nadal, so Nole had to officially do his dirty work for him.

Ive said for years, Fed needs to at least send Nole a thank you card. Good lord

And if Nole ends his career with a winning head to head over Nadal, Nadal fans can't really use the head to head argument when saying Nadal is the Goat over federer despite having lesser achievements.

I don't think Nole can ever reverse the horrendous 8-3 H2H in slams. H2H in mickey mouse tournaments maybe, but who cares about that?

Imagine if the final career H2H's have Nadal leading Federer, Djokovic leading Nadal and Federer leading Djokovic. Where would arguments about the place of H2H in GOAT discussions go then?

It is highly likely given the way their matches have gone over the last three years that Djokovic will end up with a significant advantage in the H2H with Nadal. This shows how ridiculous Nadal fans assertion that Nadal is better than Federer due to the H2H is.

They are basically forcing themselves into the position of inevitably accepting that Djokovic is a greater player than Nadal.

Don't know about significant advantage... Imo he will lead the head to head with about 2 maybe 3 wins, once one of them retires...

as far as i know, federer stopped nadal twice in slams and djokovic stopped nadal just thrice in slams......so how exactly has djokovic saved federer's legacy?

the truth is nadal always had challenges......just listen to what agassi said......nadal played in the toughest era......before his prime, he had to deal with federer and after his prime, he is dealing quite successfully wit djokovic......in his prime, he just destroyed federer and djokovic......

nadal is simply making his own legacy......he is already the greatest of this era by a huge distance......

For some people on this forum, the whole sport of tennis seems to revolve around just two men. Every achievement of any other player (Wawrinka winning the AO, Djokovic carving out his own great career) can be reduced to how it impacts the careers and numbers of these two men.

Kind of sad really.

This really, Djokovic isn't winning titles for Federer lol.

Lets see how he does at the big one anyway.

Such a ridiculous argument. Essentially you (and Agassi for that matter) are saying that Federer should be penalised because he didnt have to play against Federer.

The weak era argument is a fallacy. Prime Hewitt, Roddick, Davydenko, Nalbandian and Safin would destroy most of the top ten today - bar the big four.

If Nadal was as great as you say he is he would have a heap more slams, weeks at number one, WTF etc.

If Nadal had appeared on the tour at the same time as Federer he wouldnt have been any more successful.

I think the top brass at the ATP and ITF has done a lot more for Nadal than Djokovic has ever done for Federer.

I love it how people like to bring up Federer's "so called" weak competition he had back then, like they mugs... "fat nalbandian" and "servebot Roddick" etc

In actual fact Federer was just that good...

They have done nothing for Federer except limiting his domination by slowing down the courts and added high bounce.

The majority of Nadal's "legacy" comes from sweeping up the clay court season every year. He's racked up many masters shields and slams on the surface to confuse his total slam count with a more diverse portfolio. He is not the GOAT on all surfaces, he is the GOAT on clay and that is all.

Fedal clowns act like Djoker showed up fighting in 2006-2008 every slam.
He does more difficult work in top 15 player draws. nadal needs clay 5 setters really bad. Otherwise, Djoker surpasses fedal there too. He's not worried. Fed & rafa are his pigeons 9/10 times.

There is always a player who saves someone's legacy by beating his hardest opponent or preventing him to win equal/more titles than the one who has been saved.

The only problem I have with this OP is his selective approach while applying his own formulas of diminishing other player.

You could also say that McEnroe had saved the legacy of Sampras by beating Borg in their last three Major meetings. Otherwise, Borg would have won 14 Majors (and probably more) and he would be considered better than Pete because of wins on hard, clay, grass etc.
