And someone else player will be saying the same when Nole gets to38 if he makes it playing and the same again for Nadal.
I'm personally not a Fed fan but here i see Nole just admiring him and praising Federer for what he has accomplished and can still accomplish today.
Nole knows he can beat Federer, but he also knows that Federer is pure talent, while all the other player including Nole Nadal and so on had to work twice as hard than him to get there where he is now......and 90% of the players can't still beat Federer today.

Fact is the rhetoric is clear. Most do seem to think nadal is the true greatest. Certainly for over a decade when all three players have peaked at sane time Federer has not been the best on any surface. Nadal and Djokovic dominate clay and Djokovic and Nadal have dominated Hard courts at the Majors and Djokovic on grass has been largely unrivalled.

Djokovic is on a mission to break Fed's record for sure. It might be an obsession actually. I've noticed lately he always starts out by saying I have the "utmost respect for Fed's achievements". That is a clear indication that he doesn't REALLY respect him bc if you really respect someone, you would "I have the utmost respect for HIM", not "...for his achievements". I understand why Nole feels this way. There's certainly the long history of feeling disrespected by Fed (for reasons unknown) when he first came onto the scene in 2007-2008. There was the history of playing 3rd fiddle to Roger and Rafa. And there was the more recent ill treatment from the crowds during the head-to-head matches. So he definitely has an axe to grind. However, I think he will be disappointed in the end, because even if he winds up with the Slam record, the fans won't love him more, nor the media. Nothing will change except a statistic. If he is going to break the Slam record I actually wish he'd do while Fed is still playing so that they could have a h2h match with Nole as the record header and he'd realize that, wow, the fans still prefer Fed over me.

It's not 100% eloquent, but it doesn't have to be. Clearly what he's saying is "Only someone as great as Roger Federer could fend off 7 match points like that. It shows that his status as one the greatest players of all time is well-deserved."

The lack of respect for Federer on this forum is sad. The man is a sporting icon - one of the greatest sportsman of all time. Nadal or Djokovic may yet surpass Federer's slam total yet neither will ultimately enjoy the legacy of Federer nor be considered greater than him by the majority. I really am, but you know me huh? I’m just weary of people not seeing the totality of Fed’s greatness. 15 years between major wins, 46 slam semis or better. Wrap your brain around that. 31 slam finals. 103 titles. Winning tournaments at 36, 37 and 38. One point from winning Wimbledon a month shy of 38th birthday.

All you have to do is watch Fed and Novak together at the Laver Cup. Fed’s all around game is clearly superior. Better volleys, better drop shot, better net movement, better hands. Novak was a whole level behind Fed in terms of shot making. Toni Nadal said Fed is the most talented player by far the tour has ever seen. McEnroe said it as well. What Novak does better than anyone in history is groundstroke precision, court coverage and return of serve. I’ll give you that for sure. But all around, Fed is the greater “tennis” player. If Novak gets to 21 majors, I may change my position, we’ll see.

If it were all about shotmaking, Kyrgios, DimiGOAT, and Gurufils would be greater than Borg and Lendl.
