NRG2 replacement...

Folks,
I'm a 4.0 using an APD with NRG2 in the mains and Blackcode in the crosses. Since the time I relo-ed to Australia, I can't source a reel of NRG2 locally here. Can you suggest some alternatives to NRG2 that would play very similar?
Thanks in advance.

I have tried NRG2 as a full bed and it really is a great string. Best way to get it in Australia (I live in Australia too) is to order it in when you buy some other stuff from Tennis Warehouse. The postage is way too much if you just buy one or two strings, but if you buy a big batch, then its easier to justify the cost, and still cheaper than buying in Australia. Any alternative option to replace NRG2 with a different multi you'll not find as a cheaper option in Australia - either way you'll end up ordering them online.

If you wanted better than NRG2 - go with natural gut. Once you go gut you won't go back. The Klip is a great option if you want a cost effective gut. Pacific could be good too, but I can't really comment as I've not used it myself.

Yeah, that's a tough one mate. You won't find a better option in the multi category (coming from someone who hates multi, haha)

You could try to trade people in the classified section, string trades thread. That's if you really didn't want to try anything new and wanted to stick to NRG2

X-One bi-phase is a better version of NRG2

If you figure the cost into the equation, I am not sure X1 is better than NRG2. I think both are equally good for different reason and you can't really go wrong with either string.

X1 is more powerful but loses tension faster.
NRG2 has less power, better tension maintenance, and slightly cheaper.

See if you can find...NXT or Quasigut there down under. Technifibre multis are great but from what I hear they OEM for Wilson.

The closest thing I've found to NRG2 (and 1/2 the price) is Pro Supex Maxim Touch. Don't know how easy it is to get there, though.

The Maxim is much softer than NGR2 and have much less power, I tried both and there's a big difference between the two.

Are you not able to get the Tecnifibre string at all or it's just the NGR2 you cannot get?? Otherwise you could try the TGV, it is a bit softer in my opinion, but the feel is pretty good.

No, this is just not true. X-1 is a different multifilament offered by Technifibre. I no category is it better than NRG2 which IMO is still the reference standard for all high-end multis. X-1 is launchy, unpredictable, has terrible tension maintenance and varies so much by gauge and color that it's ridiculous to recommend unless you recommend your specific color and gauge.

Agree, Biphase and NRG2 are not similar. Biphase starts out stiff as a board. At first, you need to take a big cut to get any power, if you don't it feels stiff as board. It loosens up fast though, and after 4 or 5 hours it slowly starts launching everything, then it frays and dies. I found it hard to adjust to the string because it changes so much every time you hit with it.

NRG2 at least stays pretty consistently powerful until it shreds down to just a few fibers on a main or cross. Tourna Quasigut is a lot like that, not so much like Biphase.
