Number of 1st volleys in a Dubs match

Watching FYBs Secret Sauce Vid and saw where the Bryan Bros say they may only
hit 3-4 first position volleys in a match. They find ways to get in and be closer to
net for most volleys and avoid seeing lots of tough deeper volleys.
I mention this due to some past debates on where most volleys should be practiced.
Yes, I understand that 1st volley position practice can be good, but maybe
more work on the volleys that you should see more often would pay off too.
I had suggested extra practice for normal volley position due to seeing so many
rec league doubles players in that position, but doing a volley like it was 1st position.
Some seem to think if you can volley from 1st position, that you can volley better from
Ideal volley position. That my be true, but it does not mean you will.
Often players will play like they practice, even if better options exist.

Might be true for them, but my doubles partners tend to stay glued in place, and have enough problems hitting forcing volleys if the ball is hit into their wheelhouse.
Also, they already know how to hit 1st volleys, low and sharp CC.
Me, OTOH, have a weak serve, my doubles partners don't move to help, and I get returns to my ankles all the time.

I'm happy if anyone practices any type of volley. So many people just mindlessly hit groundstrokes and never practice any volley or serve.

Hahaha, I love it and know what you mean. Good Point.

Mainly just pointing out some stuff those guys said that I really liked.
Pretty aggressive, so won't work for those who don't want move though, lol.

The other thing they said I liked was about getting tight so they would lob you.
They (and I) love to tease them into the lob so they get to smack overheads!
Just another reason to get up there pretty good and close.
Of course not too close, lol.

Assuming (which would be incorrect for the posts above mine) that you are mobile and can cover both 1st and 2nd volley position, then netmen have the choice to play in either position. Of course it is best to play in 2nd but there are common situations where 1st volley position can be prefered.

A couple would be: playing a deep shot to a known lobber, covering a high volley to the opposing netman (sure you are likely to get a shot you can't do much with from 1st VP but you likely won't even get a racquet on the same shot from 2nd VP), covering against a known poacher especially on first serve returns the list goes on.
