Oh my god, Djokovic is the worst doubles player ever!

I cannot fathom why a doubles specialist like Zimonjic would team up with Djoker, other than they're both Serbian. I mean, it is a sure loss. I watched the match last night against Mannarino / Halys - not exactly the cream of the doubles crop.;)

Djokovic looks just about as comfortable at the net as a vegetarian in a butchery. I've never seen a pro look so out of place on a doubles court. His net play was atrocious. I've seen 'high level' rec players with better volleys and net skills that him. Even futures level girls will make Djokovic look like a fool in doubles.

Only his serve made a slight impression, but the rest of his game was completely ineffective.

Which is weird, because Federer, Nadal, Murray and Wawrinka are all outstanding doubles players.

Why would Djokovic be playing doubles? To improve some parts of his game? To (unsuccessfully) prove he can play doubles as well? To pass the time?

He's seeking motivation from whatever and wherever he can get them. Unfortunately, losing his game-play by looking like a complete amateur in front of live TV and audience will only make him lose more motivation than gain. Btw, did he win yesterday's match?

Doubles he lost, singles is not yet on the schedule.

I find it strange though. Boris was an exceptional net player, most of the players were back then. I would've assumed that this would be an area of Djokovic's game that Boris could really help him with? Or did Djokovic flatly refuse to add that dimension to his game?

Zimonjic is ranked 60 in doubles and to qualify in the main draw he needed someone from top 5 in singles.(yes! shockingly thats how it works)

Secondly, Djokovic isn't good in doubles no doubt about that but yesterday's loss was more bcoz of Zimonjic.
Zimo didn't serve or return well neither was he exceptional at the net. The age is finally catching up !

Zimonic slipped in ranking , he couldn't play main draw without higher ranked player as partner. So Novak was there for him. And he isn't particularly good in doubles. No move on:rolleyes:

I watched the first set.
Zimonjic didn't play well and dropped serve twice...
Djok was not on fire (prob hard to get there) but there was not so much he could do I would assess.
Zimonjic has such low ranking now (was former no.1 doubles) that unless he teams up with high ranked player he won't even get into the draw! Sad but true.

Sure, Zimonjic is a bit past his prime, but saying a multiple slam winner isn't particularly good, is a bit of a stretch, don't you think.
He was mediocre yesterday if you saw the match. Serving 170-175 on the 1st,no return,no ground game. The 1st set in particular was horrible from Zimonjic. Both holds on Djokovic's serve and the only break with Novak returning on deciding point.

True. Not the best showing from Zimonjic I've seen. It would've made Zimonjic's life a lot easier though if Djokovic knew how to poach and where to position himself and move on a doubles court. When compared to most of the tour, it seems like Djokovic doesn't even know the basics of doubles. I just find it really strange for a player of his level.

That's because Djokovic's game is mainly defending the baseline. I saw the match and I couldn't agree with you more. It was embarrassing to say the least. He made Mannarinio look like a titan of tennis.

I can see why Zimonic wanted to team up with Nadal before Nadal ended his season. Zimonic doesn't only want to enter tournaments he wants to win.

Who doesn't? Zimonic is multiple GS champ too.
Yes I know , he wanted to play with Nadal but Rafa could't play Basel

Nadal and Zimonjic would make a formidable pair - that I would love to see. Nadal is a surprisingly good doubles player. I guess the gold medal in doubles is a dead giveaway:D

Nadal has 11 doubles tiles, Federer has 8. They are both great doubles players and if the schedule wasn't as crowded, I guess they would both have made #1 in doubles and singles during their illustrious careers. When someone was asked in the 80s which was the best doubles team, the answer was John McEnroe and anyone. I would say the same for Federer or Nadal.

That's where Federer, Nadal and Murray are superior to him: They have much more creativity on court. They seem more playful :)

Lol, Clayqueen's obsession with Djokovic as a doubles player(and in general truth be told) is bizarre to say the least. Anyway he ain't the first number 1 singles player to be average in doubles and he certainly won't be the last so not sure what the big deal is.

True, he isn't the first, and he probably won't be the last. What shocked me is how terrible he is at doubles - compared, not only to other singles players, but to how exceptional he is at singles. The disparity is astounding.

I saw the match as as well and fully agree with you. It's actually shocking how bad Djokovic is at doubles. Probably the worst #1 ranked singles player to ever step on a court in dubs. Every time I see Djokovic play doubles, some pair of journeymen is beating him. It's noteworthy because it shows how the surface homogenization of today has let players with no net skills like Novak take over, showing how much more it's about fitness/running side to side than having good hands and a complete game.

He truly is. I can't believe that he had the audacity and nerve to enter the Olympics doubles tournament this year to try to win a medal. What an insult to the Olympic games and to athletes all over the world. He took the place of someone much more deserving.

Average? He is not even close. If you saw that match yesterday, you wouldn't described him as average in doubles.

The big deal is, if any confirmation was needed that Djokovic is a robot this is it.

What gets me is if you think he's such a poor doubles player, why bother watching his matches? o_O

To be honest with you, I didn't plan to watch it, it was there and I had nothing better to do at the time. I actually enjoyed watching him cringe at his own performance. It was entertaining to see the robot trying to veer off course and making a mess of it.

One of the commies actually said Djokovic is obviously not able to target 2 people at the other end of the court.

He is not bad. The guy is in a slump, he is not playing tennis to his best abilities. So what you guys saw yesterday is not the real Novak.

Not half as enjoyable as watching Nadal's performances in the slams these last couple of years.

Comparing McEnroe to Federer and Nadal in the task envisioned in doubles is an insult to the brat.

Would you EVER get a reasonable reference to him, because every time you use his name you hurt people's eyes (and brains).

In JMac's days, top singles players were able to play more doubles matches especially in slams because the calendar was not so crowded. If top singles players today had the room to play more doubles then we would be able to compare their achievements with players of yesteryear. McEnroe's era were able to play more doubles and get more titles than their counterpart today.

You don't have to write about things that I have witnessed personally and sometimes up-close.

Have you watched it?

Unfortunately, but aside from the plain obvious promotional video of the stupid academy nothing stood out.

Could you point at the exact time of something that made you post this video and explain why in technical terms (execution)?

Thanks.
