Olympics Should Have Snow Court Tennis

I have heard of ice tennis and saw a video of it from the 1920s I think but that seems kinda slippery so I purpose snow tennis! Basically the court would be made of compacted snow and would be played at the Winter Olympics.

Ya know I was thinking something similar that why couldn't they offer indoor tennis as part of the Winter Olympics... But I guess it wouldn't be quite in line with the idea of a winter sport if the players are running around in shorts.

If that's the case, then every sport that can be played indoors will be petitioning for a spot in the winter olympics.

Imagine handball, volleyball, basketball etc.

Just so Roger can win on yet another surface?

Please, let's not guarantee his fans the inevitable satisfaction.

If they had snow and rain tennis, my son and I would be the GOAT! We don't have the money to train indoors, but being the freaks we are we literally play all winter on hard snow, but mainly wet courts.

I challenge Federer to a match when the court is soaked, I have some special plays for him:)

Yeah, that would definitely be mean. Plus, if Tiriac was allowed to paint the snow blue, Nadal and Djokovic would boycott the event anyway and the Olympics would immediately become a meaningless exo ala WTF, so I guess it's best that tennis be left out of the winter Olympics.

Oh yeah, I still remember the pathetic and deeply lamentable, not to mention utterly unintelligible, comments of Nadal and Djokovic regarding the blue clay and how the colour was the problem and not the clay itself or how it was laid incorrectly and not compressed enough or whatever, and insisted, IIRC, that they wouldn't play next year if the blue clay remained. Ironically, if Tiriac had wanted, he could have produced precisely the same conditions by going through the same process of laying the actual court as was done in 2012, and yet had the clay be red. This would have been a brilliant master-stroke because then Nadal and Djokovic would have both refused to enter any red clay event ever again for the remainder of their careers.

Thanks.

I think they should play Ice Tennis on a skating rink just like they do in Ice Hockey!

It would be fun watching the players try not to fall over the net when they're putting away a volley. It would be tailor-made for someone like Novak who enjoys slipping and sliding on ANY surface and Roger would look even more elegant as he glides majestically around the court. Not sure how kind it would be on Rafa's knees or Andy's back but at least none of them would have to do any running!

Of course, they would all have to learn to skate first!

:)

I am actually trying to think up a way to make this work.

The ideal temperature would be -5 degrees Celsius (because that's when ice is the most ductile or softest), and you would need some cooling underneath to maintain that temperature (perhaps ice underneath with a cooling system). The snow would also be packed dense enough to withstand the force of the ball and the players. It would probably also need to be repacked at every change of ends, or at least twice per set. The match format could ideally also be shortened to prevent too much damage to the snow.

This was actually quite fun to think about on the train to work. I might think out something for pure ice later on.

Please?!? The Pro players moan like a baby if play isn't suspended if there is reported rain 10 miles away. They'll make a federal case out of it, if a raindrop hits the court, and that player loses the point. LOL
