One amazing thing about Nadal

He’s won grand slam titles on his weakest surfaces against the respective GOATs of those surfaces:
Beat the grass GOAT at Wimby
Beat HC co-GOAT at AO
Beat HC co-GOAT at USO twice.

The guy gets overlooked a lot here these days. These are pretty awesome achievements.
There are soooo many other amazing things about Nadal!

I actually feel of all his accomplishments reaching the AO final this year was his greatest ever as in the history of sport I do not think anyone has been that amazing 6 weeks post major surgery. Simply mind boggling.

I was going to compliment you on your avi until I read the content. 8-B
When Fed is losing to the likes of Tsitsipas and Millman in Slams, him occasionally running into Djokovic and losing is the biggest deal right?

it's really not

Yes. Also the years he did it, levels were higher than now.
Not overlooked by me though ;)

But that was not major surgery.

That's why Nadal is the BOAT. He has defeated prime Federer in Grand Slam matches on grass (WB 2008), and prime Djokovic in Grand Slam matches on hard courts (USO 2013).

Federer and Djokovic never defeated prime Nadal in Grand Slam matches on clay.
Rafa is the only one of the 3 beating prime rivals on their surfaces.
Funny when Novak fans talk about Federers weak early slams when Novak has had his load of them too. He hasn’t beaten prime Federer like Rafa has done.
Andy practically a bye for Rafa, unlike for Novak and Federer.

Rafa is like the middle child. He isn’t into the drama either like Federer and Novak has had. But damn Rafa has been fighting and he has faced both of them in their primes.

I will give Rafa credit where credit is due. Rafa has beaten the very best versions of Federer and Djoker on their best surfaces. Rafa ended Federer’s 56 match winning streak on hard courts and Federer’s 65 match winning streak on grass courts. Both of those streaks are by far the longest in the Open Era. Nobody is even remotely close. And yet, Nadal ended both of those. Nadal beat Djoker at the USO twice in 4 years.

Every now and then, beast mode Nadal shows up. And when he does, he is extremely dangerous. He can win anywhere against anybody.

Unfortunately, I think that injuries have caught up to Rafa. This not the same Rafa from 10 years ago. I don’t see him doing this anymore. But to be fair, it is a miracle that Rafa can still play after all of the injuries that he has sustained. Nobody gave him a chance to play past 30. And yet, here he is at nearly 33 years old.

You forget Rafael Nadal 81 matchs winning streak on clay, ended by...Federer at Hamburg 2007.

No, he hasn't. Unless you consider USO 2013 the best version of Djokovic.

No. Homogenization of the surfaces helped him

Like the wind, temperature, sun, and whatever only effects the side of the losing players. It's a sad excuse for someone not being able to adapt across surfaces and conditions.

If the AO is an indicator of Nadal's level he has a great shot of wining the next three Majors o the basis his attacking game is now good enough to beat all but Djokovic, and once he has the time to build his stamina and defensive game back to its usual level he will be able to hang with Djokovic for marathon matches. He will therefore win a fair few v Djokovic as well as lose some.

What is unclear at the moment is whether Nadal will ever get back those legendary defensive skills or whether this attacking game of his has been done out of necessity due to a lack of movement. If that is the case he will never beat Djokovic again as Nadal will never have the ability to out hit Djokovic like Wawrinka has naturally.

Indian Wells will be a far better guide for the rest of the season than Australia, it always is.

Main reason why I'm a fan of his. He is kind, humble, honest, and does not act like he is above other people just because he's a tennis player.
No competitor at the top level is humble.

I wonder how a "bye" managed to beat peak Nadal comfortably twice at HC slams (including an easy straight set affair at AO). He has just as many wins against Rafa in majors as he does against Novak; so much for your theory.

And Murray has beaten Federer (in his worst year on tour) ONCE in a slam and it still took him 5 sets to do it on a slow HC.

I know you only follow one player but that's the reality.

Nah, 7-17 is a called a bye for the members of the big 4.

I beleive he has been a in more GS, and has a better GS winning precentage in those than Fed or Djo. I recall reading that, but that might not be the case anymore.

Two of the most amazing of the many amazing things about Nadal are:

1. He has never been beaten, despite having had a long career plagued by injury and unfairness (for example, the tour continually sets conditions that harm him by for example only having one of four Slams on clay, when in point of fairness at least four of four Slams should be on clay. So, too, do the WTF and the masters discriminate against him. And despite all this, he has never yet lost a match).
2. Very few people realize quite how great his record is, because of his humility. In fact, it is only thanks to the tireless work of some of his fans on this forum that I came to be aware of point 1.

The combination of these two amazing things reveals what really is the most amazing thing about Nadal:

3. He is the greatest human of all time.

This isn't true anymore.

I've said this in many other threads recently, but we base our current opinion/evaluation of Nadal on what he did from 2008-13, which we can reasonably understand as his 5-year peak/prime.

Post-2013 his results vs Djokovic and Federer have been very different.

From 1/14 to now he is 1-5 against Federer, all on hard courts (1-1 at Slams).
From 1/14 to now he is 3-11 against Djokovic, with his only wins coming on clay (1-3 at Slams).

4-16 against Nole and Fed since the beginning of 2014. That's 5 years of winning exactly 1 match for every 4 meetings.

That’s one way to put it. One could argue that Djokovic is not the HC GOAT but the AO GOAT. He only won 3 USO titles so he’s never been supremely dominant on fast HC. He’s supremely dominant on Plexicushion and Nadal has never defeated Djokovic on this surface.

Totally not true.

Nadal: 253-37 (87.24%)
Djokovic: 265-41 (87%)
Federer: 342-55 (86.15%)

Of course, Rafa's numbers are heavily weighted by the French.

Here are the #s by Slam (W-L and %)

AO: N 61-13 (82.4%), D 68-8 (89%), F 97-14 (87.4%)
FO: N 86-2 (97.7%), D 63-13 (83%), F 65-16 (80.2%)
W: N 48-11 (81.3%), D 65-10 (83%), F 95-12 (88.7%)
US: N 58-11 (84.1%), D 69-10 (87%), F 85-13 (86.7%)

The most amazing thing would be if Nadal could ever win a match without cheating and breaking the rules. It really calls into question how great he would actually be if he played by the rules.

He couldn't. So much of his greatness is based on his mastery of mental games and being able to bend/exploit the rules. He's a hustler.

"Humble - having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's importance."

I simply disagree, and that is reflected by most things he says. You're probably mistaking being humble for thinking he is not great. He knows he's a great tennis player, but that doesn't mess with his head in thinking he is more important than others.

That's Nadal's technique to ensure that he doesn't have to deal with the pressure of being the favorite in a big match (a win-win situation since he can lose and be tagged a warrior or win and psyche players out even more).

Because humility means wearing 700k Richard Mille watches and appearing in topless Armani commercials.

One has got to be completely naive to believe that a player at the top level is humble. That is a media manufactured image and the players do a good job of keeping up with it.

I notice you couldn't bring yourself to add 'lie' to your list with a straight face. :). Awww the poetic justice. Of course you wouldn't be stupid enough to do it now. The time has passed.

Never needed to be said or addressed. No merit and utter blind bias. The chonies being bunched is a tell tale sign.
