Part time job with the TSA

I applied for a part time job with the TSA last month. During the interview where they asked so many questions like how do you deal with conflicts I did not do well enough. So I was told I can't be hired. Here is the kicker both interviewers told me next time if you do apply to us goggle some answers about conflicts.

?????? WTF how professional can the TSA be if they tell people that? These are the people trusted to defend bad guys from getting on planes? Its all scripted questions that ask. They said you can reapply in 6 months with help from Goggle at interviews. Has anyone been told this from even Mcdonalds or Jack in the box?

Sounds fairly normal to me, interviews are nothing more than hoop jumping exercises, as long as the candidate ticks the boxes, they're hired.

Sounds like they were only trying to help you be successful next time, and to be fair google is a fantastic resource for research on such questions.

1. How many bad guys do the TSA actually stop from getting on planes? We don't really hear about many cases of people being found going through with guns, bombs etc. Isn't it more of an image thing to say hey look what we are doing to stop terrorism?

2. Job interviews are just a game-they have a set list of things they ask & are just looking to tick as many boxes as possible as the above poster says. You might be highly suited for the job but don't have the right look or answers & somebody else might be totally unsuitable but is flashier & tells them what they want to hear. Which is why many companies have image problems as these people mess up badly when they are hired.

Good one, Rommil

I was torn. tell the truth or goggle answers. I did a mix of both. Wanted to burst out " I hated those old MoFos at my old Job" but that was not going to fly I figured.

It is pretty obvious what happened. They want to hire people but want to show that it is not easy. Standard procedure of government and quasi-government agencies.

They are giving you tips about where to learn about conflict resolution. If they had mentioned a textbook, you would have been satisfied. Instead, they gave you a cheaper option.

Everyone asks scripted questions. There are only so many original questions around. Microsoft used to give examinations but all the questions got posted on the Web. If you work in a large company, you would know that there are legal limits to original questions that you can ask. You have to come up with the same level of original questions, regardless of interviewer or candidate, to avoid discrimination lawsuits.

Doing a good job in security has nothing to do with this. They will conduct background checks and provide you with training. This is just a formality.
