People posting their email

Hello TT members,
I was just looking around the forum, and many times I have seen other members post their emails quite oddly.
I've seen them put it like... xxxxxxxx [AT] gmail
xxxxxxxx @ gmail DOT com

and the list goes on.

Why do they do this? Is there a reason why they don't actually post their full email normally, like "xxxxxxxx@gmail.com"?

Perhaps they do not want their emails searched?
Maybe I'm missing something.

Enlighten me.
Thanks

Yes, it used to be used to keep their email address from being picked up and farmed my web crawling bots. Of course, in today's world, that doesn't work as well anymore since the syntax can be scanned for much better and still farmed, but it does minimize it a bit.

Yeah, the best way to do it is to register it w/ your account, then tell them to click on your username, then select 'Send email to XXX' from the menu.

The email is sent through TT's system, and your email address is never exposed. In fact, I believe you can reply through the system to the sender, so your actual email address is hidden in the reply.

I suppose you mean that your email is not exposed on the internet. When you use the user profile to send an email, the recipient can see you email id and reply direcctly to your email id.

From what i remember, if you reply to the sender, you do expose your email id too.

Yes, the initiator exposes their e-mail address, but the "initial" receiver does not, unless they respond directly to the sender.
