Prince Classic Response 97: Need Help From TW Staff Please

Hi

This question is for Andy, Chris, Brittany or any of the good folk at @TW Staff I bought the Prince Classic Response 97 on sale from Tennis Warehouse. I strung it up with Volkl Cyclone at 52 pounds. But it feels too soft and mushy and no power and not at all like my Pure Drive or DR98 which both have same 52 pound Volkl Cyclone in them. Can you please advise what string and tension to use in Prince Classic Response 97 to atleast be playable (even if not exactly like my DR98 or Pure Drive). Is full poly still good for this frame? Someone recommended higher tension like maybe 56-58 and maybe synthetic or multi in it. Any thoughts or recommendation please? I don't want this frame to collect dust and I want to be able to get most out if it. It feels excellent in my hands when I swing so I REALLY want to be able to play with this well too. Im a 36yo strong 4.0 and weak 4.5

Many thanks.

That's because they're nothing alike... -.-

That's like saying if you can turn a hummer into a lambo by putting on some max performance summer tires.

Are you @TW Staff ?

I know about difference in build of racquets. But I am asking for a suggestion from folks at TW that would make it more playable for me at least. I gave my tensions and racquets in my post to give an idea of how my equipment plays. Plus I wanted a suggestion to make the racquet play less mushy and soft and if tightening tension or changing string would work

Thank you for the replies fellow TW posters but I am looking for help from TW Staff in specific. I am new to this forum so I did not know how to send an inbox message. Please do not take offence but this question is only aimed for TW Staff as I take their advice more seriously than anyone else.

There have been a few threads about how people set up this frame. From those, it seems it's not uncommon to add a little lead at 12 or 2/10 just to give it a little more pop. So it's possible that sort of solution might help in your case, too.

I've got two PCR97s, but haven't leaded them at all yet (might experiment someday). Admittedly I've only recently started trying out poly. I've generally gone old-school with full bed Prince Syn Gut w/Duraflex, just over 60lbs. Might get a little more pop from that setup with a slightly lower tension, though. With the limited trials I've done with poly, the biggest gain with a poly/syn gut hybrid seems is that it grants a noticeable improvement with spin, especially for serves. Note that for the hybrid setup, I did drop my tension a bit cause I was afraid of it going too dead. I think I tried about 55lbs and it still seemed lively enough. I did try full-bed cyclone around 54lbs, and that did feel pretty dead to me. I'll probably start experimenting more with poly hybrids at this point. There are just so many options between string combos and tensions...

I would suggest going with your usual string, just drop your tension 3-4 pounds to account for the lower-powered racquet. I don't think putting a synthetic gut or a multi will give you the result you are looking for because it will make the racquet play completely different than what you're used to.

Thank you very much Andy. I will string 4 pounds less on my next restringing as you recommended.
