Pro Supex Premier Ace 17 mini review

I tried the Pro Supex Premier Ace 17 out last night over 2 sets of doubles and 1 set of singles. This string has a lot to like. It is a softer poly. Has good control, feel and medium power. As a comparison I would say it is most like Kirschbaum P2, but has just a tad more feel. You could also compare it to Cyberflash and say it's a little softer than Cyberflash with a smidge less power. Overall a nice string, but I would still have to say that Competition is overall the best poly I've played.

Compared to Competition, the Premier Ace moves more, has slightly less feel, is just a tad more powerful, and loses a bit more tension initially. I suspect that long term the Premier Ace will lose more tension overall, but I'll have to play with it another week or two to say how it does over time.

If you like experimenting with new polys, this one is worth a try. Very nice playing string.

thanks for the review!

In your opinion, Which string has better control, cyber flash or the premier ace?

Also, out of all the strings you had mentioned above, which one would you rate being the softest and best for vollyers.

Thanks!

I would say the control would probably be a tad better at least initially with Premier Ace assuming they were strung at the same tension. I know from past experience with Cyberflash that it holds up quite well over time, so I can't say what will happen long term yet with the Premier Ace.

The best volleying poly of those I mentioned would probably be Premier Ace. I think the Premier Ace has a bit more softness and feel and that helps it qualify for a look as a serve and volley poly. Cyberflash I would tend to put more in the baseline category, and Competition is really a good all around string that could probably be tweaked tension wise to move towards all-court play rather than baseline play, but I'm not sure I would recommend it as serve and volley string. There is an 18g version of Competition that might help it out in that department though. So far I have stuck to 17g polys except for Luxilon Ace. That was a nice poly too, more stiff feeling than these and it didn't last long at all either.

I agree with your assessments, but I just can't play with the orange color. I think the Polyfibre strings are the best I have ever tried for soft polys. The Hightec premium is very soft and the TCS is just awesome.

The Premier Ace comes in natural so you would not have to go Tennessee Orange. I really like the Premier Ace 17. I do serve and volley and I really like it around the net even though it does not have a lot of power on the serve.

Thanks for the review.
How do you handle string tension with the 'soft' polys, like Premier Ace and Cyberflash?
I'm wondering if you tend to string the 'soft' polys at the same tension you'd use for a nylon string, or if you drop the tension a bit (but maybe not as much as you would for a standard poly).
Thanks, in advance, for the input.

I string the softer polys at pretty much the same tension I would use for a syn gut depending on how they lose tension. Cyberflash tends to lose tension at the beginning and then stabilize so I string it up a couple pounds. Competition doesn't seem to lose tension for a long time, so I string it down a couple pounds. With my current frame (Pure Storm Team) I am normally at somewhere between 55 and 58 pounds on polys. With Syngut I would usually string it at 57lbs or 58lbs. This is on a drop weight, so if you are on a lockout, your tension might be a bit higher.

I'm going to try my sample out tomorrow....so I will be able to answer questions as well.

*edit* i'm having trouble even stringing this stuff. When I wrap it around the drum (dropweight here) and move the arm so that it can fall on its own, it doesn't want to. I don't know if it's scared, or if the string is just too damn stiff?
